CAN You Make An Argument Against Usyk Being FOTY 2018

    What do you see happening in the next 8 weeks that could change this?

    We have Wilder v Fury which wither way will likely be a big win but Fury has two domestic level guys and Wilder has Ortiz. Wilder winning might put him in the debate but I still think Usyks had a more impressive year.

    Whyte beating Browne, Parker and Chisora again is a very solid year but its still trumped.

    Steohenson/Gvozdyk, Warrington/Frampton and Alvarez/Fielding winners would all add to a very good year for all the winners but still wouldn't be as good imo.

    Fielding pulling off the underdog win could well sway some I guess.

    IF Deontay Wilder knocks out Tyson Fury, after knocking out Luis Ortiz, Wilder should be the Fighter of the Year.

    Luis Ortiz and Tyson Fury are better than (and would beat) anyone Usyk beat this year.

    Wilder would become the Lineal Heavyweight Champion.

    Winning the heavyweight championship has always been more impressive than winning the cruiserweight championship.

    Same in this case.

    For example, if Usyk were to eventually become the Lineal Heavyweight champion, that would be a bigger deal than being the cruiserweight champ.

    Im not so sure. What's Ortiz best three wins? Jennings, Thompson and Scott. Fury has looked poor in his last two fights which were domestic level.

    Bellew, Gassiev and Briedis wouldn't beat Tyson Fury or Luis Ortiz.

    They are all essentially heavyweights. If Wilder knocks out Fury, stopping Ortiz and Fury is more impressive than anything Usyk has done this year.

    I don't really know how anyone could argue that.

    Wilder still has to do it, though. He hasn't yet.

    I guess you "can," but probably wouldn't get too much support for it.

    Scoring the Briedis fight against him or even, as a percentage you can't ignore did, would be one step in making the argument.

    I think Usyk has it in the bag. If Canelo and Wilder both win their upcoming fights, the conversation becomes more real but even so I probably lean Usyk.

    They aren't heavyweights, they fight at Cruiserweight. Breidis was ranked 3 when they fought, Gassiev ranked 2 when they fought and Bellew wasn't due to spending a couple of years at heavyweight.

    Ortiz was ranked 5, Fury isn't even ranked in the top 15 on many rankings currently due to a two year lay off and the fact that his most recent wins came against a guy not ranked at heavyweight and another ranked about 150th.

    They all enter the ring at well over 200 pounds. They're all essentially heavyweights. Luis Ortiz was rated #2 by the WBC when he fought Wilder (probably should've been rated #1). Fury is rated #3 by the WBC. He's the Lineal champ.

    I'm not going to argue this nonsense ratings crap.

    Luis Ortiz and Tyson Fury are better than anyone Usyk has beaten this year. (Briedis arguably lost yesterday.)

    NONE of you would pick anyone Usyk beat this year over Ortiz or Tyson Fury.

    And if Wilder had decided to defend against Bellew and Briedis and Gassiev this year (and barely edge Briedis), and Usyk knocked out Luis Ortiz and Tyson Fury this year ... nobody would be bragging about who Wilder beat. (Instead, they'd be bashing Wilder for fighting weak opposition.)

    IF ... and he hasn't done it yet ... IF Wilder knocks out the undefeated Lineal Heavyweight Champ Tyson Fury, after knocking out the undefeated Luis Ortiz, Wilder should be Fighter of the Year.

    If Wilder doesn't, I don't have any problem with Usyk winning.

    Usyk had a great year. But if Wilder knocks out Fury and Ortiz, he's had a better year and beat better guys (more convincingly).

    That's the only guy (Wilder) I see taking Fighter of the Year from Usyk.

    But Wilder has yet to do it.

    Well, according to Sky boxing commentators he didn't win a round off Bellew. I'm pretty sure they scored the eighth 10/10.

    They make the cruiserweight limit so they are cruiserweight, if you take that approach most of boxing are fighting in the wrong division. Let's see how well Fury would do fighting them if he had to cut down to 200, he'd probably die, you only get judged on the division you are in.

    Gassiev has two better wins than anything on Ortiz record, Ortiz looked poor against Allen and Scott, he was massively overrated going into the fight but he is a good fighter. Wilder lost near e ery round and had help from. The doctors to give him recovery time when he was hurt, still won though and fair play but its easy to pull fighters apart.

    Fury hasn't had a world level win in three years. Kevin Johnson dismantled and knocked out Pianeta and Fury didn't look very good against him despite winning clearly.

    WBC is one fourth of the other all title. Joshua isn't even ranked there and he's the number one in the division lol

    I would pick Wilder to beat Golovkin but I don't judge how good there year was on that, that's plain ******ed.
