Yeah but Fielding is utter trash and it's the regular belt not a real world title. If he fought Jacobs, BJS, etc, he'd easily be FOTY for me.

Can't fight BJS he's suspended and vacated his title. Making the Jacobs fight before the end of the year wouldn't be possible as he just fought.

I was just saying if he beat those caliber guys he's FOTY. Fighting Fielding is like not fighting the 2nd time to me. Means nothing. If it was for a real belt it would hold more weight though, even if it was Fielding.

He's not fighting for a world title. Fielding only has the regular title, Smith is the WBA champion.

I don't mind Canelo doing this though since Fielding isn't awful to test the waters at 168. It's just a tune up at the end of the day though. Plus the guy fought GGG twice.

Lineal is a made up title, it doesn't mean a lot really. All depends on the context of how you win it. Fury has been inactive and hasn't had a world level win in years, was banned for doping and blew up to 25 stone on a drug/drink/eating binge for those two years. We know all this as fact and have to attribute that to how good the win is. We've also watched him look ordinary against two fighters in Sefari and Pianeta who aren't ranked in the top 150 at heavyweight.

Ortiz is a good win, no doubt, top five at heavyweight when they fought but his resume is worse than Gassievs, that can't be argued seriously and is probably about on par with both Bellew and Breidis tbf.

I don't think you can argue either Ortiz or Fury is currently better than any of Usyk wins this year.

Also Usyk has started his own lineage at cruiserweight, he is the lineal champion, he is undisputed and he has cleaned out the entire division within fifteen fights. He is on many the greatest cruiserweight of all time and at worst you could maybes argue second best. He's currently sitting in the top five P4P fighters with many ranking him at first.

Wilder doesn't have those attributes, matter less of the result with Wilder he leaves the year ranked number 2 at heavyweight.

The rules of boxing are set out, Wilder wouldn't be able to make the limit for cruiserweight so you can't directly compare them head to head. When Usyk moves up you can then but until. Then they fight in different divisions and their achievements are only relevant to that division.

Also heavyweight isn't necessarily a bigger accomplishment than Cruiserweight or any other division, this is why Robinson, Greb and Armstrong plus others are generally rated higher than any heavyweight. Is heavyweight better than Cruiserweight as a division now, I'd say they are fairly even, heavyweight is a fairly weak division in its current state, it doesn't get more props than any of the division just cause the fighters are bigger.

So Rungvisai gets it for having one belt? And barely fighting this year? Garcia also wins two belts and vacates both of them, Golovkin loses a decision and vacates hi other belts and Dogboe wins one belt.

Come on these are some ridiculous names you are putting forward, the only person who has an argument is fury if he beats Wilder.

I can but it would be about as convincing one as Denis Lebedev in drag

:risas3: at Donkey getting it over Usyk for beating the drug-ravaged shell of Fury's inactive for 2.5 years coming back down from 400lbs + I haven't fought anyone with a pulse in 3 years shot ghost

Possibly Fury if he beats Wilder. That would be a huge achievement considering where he came from to become a two time HW champ against a 4 year reigning unbeaten champion who was fully expected to beat him.

A better question is, "Has any fighter ever had a better single calendar year of fights, and if so Who and When?"

Imagine Briedis in his 40's on blood pressure and Gassiev going into a 3 year lay off, doing coke and blowing up to 400 lbs.
Then maybe the usual suspects would give Usyk his due.

Yes, they are better than any wins Usyk had this year. And, yes, winning the heavyweight championship is a bigger deal than winning the cruiserweight championship.

If Wilder decisioned Briedis and Gassiev, and stopped Bellew in title defenses this year, and Usyk knocked out the unbeaten Luis Ortiz earlier this year and stopped Tyson Fury in a couple weeks ...

Not one single person on this board would say Wilder beat better guys this year.

    No one.

Your argument is dead in the water.

Usyk had a great year. He deserves it FOTY right now. But the year isn't over.

If Wilder knocks out Fury in a couple weeks, knocking out the unbeaten Ortiz and the unbeaten Fury and becoming the Lineal World Champion is a bigger accomplishment.

If you don't agree, you're WRONG.

Normally I'd say to each his own. But you'd be WRONG. No one Usyk beat this year is better than (or would beat) Ortiz or Fury.

Briedis lost Saturday to Noel Gevor.

Fury would've beaten him while on coke and weighing 400 pounds.

    He'd certainly beat him now.

If Briedis is Usyk's BIG WIN this year, you can stop. Sometimes it's better not to speak.
