Can you name 15 MW champions you would strongly favour to beat Chris Eubank?

sibson was number 1 mw in britian but your talking about eubank fighting in a very stacked era of middleweights, eubank could say he was number in britian but not in the world.

 

Yes, "robbed" is too strong, incorrect terminology on my part there.
I thought Watson won close, or at least deserved a draw.


*Therefore I am tempted to include him in the list of those who 'would beat' 160 Eubank.
*Although the thread question is "name 15 MW champions" so Watson doesn't qualify anyway (and nor does Graham).

 

He wouldn't have been #1 in the world in Sibson's era either.

Definitely agree.
But while he wasn't a speed merchant...he wasn't slow. Very good point on being able to anticipate. Eubank was an adaptable fighter. Yes his arrogance was over the top...but it was that ego that wouldn't allow him to stop in a fight...He would go to the edge. That to me adds up to being a tough match for anyone win or lose...IMO.

 

I don't actually think Eubank was #1 in Britain though.
Herol Graham was. And I thought Watson had the edge over Eubank at 160.
That makes Eubank #3 in Britain in his own era, #2 if I'm real generous.

Sibson had to beat Alan Minter, who only a year earlier had been undisputed champion of the world, to prove himself #1 in Britain.

And I think the era on world terms was just as strong.

Of course, they didn't have WBO titles and stuff in Sibson's time, so they couldn't hype domestic rivalries up as world championships.
There was ONE world middleweight champ when Sibson was prime, and he would have severely outclassed Eubank.

I suppose some would argue that was an off-night but Eubank looked as strong and fast as he ever was to me, but was simply being outboxed for long spells against a smallish middleweight who was being a little bit smart. Then he fouled him and somehow ended up the official winner. Judges were on his side, as was the referee to some extent.
I know all the post-Watson similar performances are written off as due to some psychological holding back on his part, but the Sherry fight is the same thing.

Generally, Eubank's skill and elusiveness is overrated, probably due to all the posing and showmanship.
The man was brute strong, iron chin and a good puncher, but all that shimmering and posing was bullsh!t. When fighters ignored all that they found him easy enough to hit, and when he was made to come forward he was often lunging and off-balance.
A good fighter, but not a great one at all.

 

I thought Eubank beat Watson by seven rounds, in the most skilful performance I've seen from a British fighter.

 

Herol Graham kept losing. Eubank kept winning. You can't put Graham over Eubank, even though he'd of outboxed him in the ring.

 

Sherry 'outboxed' Eubank by running around like a rabbit and tapping his guard with a little flurry?? Eubank was landing the solid shots.

 

Correction... A great fighter but not a great boxer.
