Noooo ! Of course nobody is denying Newman didn't want the fight. What I,and other guys ,are saying
is that Riddick was happy just to let Newman make all the decisions for him.Had Newman okayed the
Lennox Lewis fight Bowe would have gone through with it.
Better get off that floor, you'll get yourself dirty.

This could be considered quite the positive spin on the situation.

I think people are on the right lines when they nominate Newman as the principal driver of the bus that drove the Lewis/Bowe fight off a cliff. What I am less inclined to believe is that Bowe was a docile passenger, happy to be driven anywhere Newman took him.

That is to suggest, I reckon Bowe was fully on board with Newman's shenanigans.

The funniest part was when Newman was parading Bowe around in Dallas he asked me if I wanted to meet the Heavyweight Champion. I'd had a few beers & couldn't resist saying " Is Lennox Lewis here too then Rock because till he's beaten Lennox he'll never be the real champ" Riddick was right there never said a word just walked away.

Yep I know where you're coming from.I guess if Bowe wanted to take it easy for a while
he might have been happy to go along with Newman.
However I'm sure that if the fight had been set up Riddick would have complied with expectations
    and taken on Lennox Lewis.

All 4 agreed to the tournament. HBO put up a massive $30m pot for the final and the Bowe & Lewis camps couldn't come to an agreement. When Bowe-Lewis was due to go to purse bids which meant Lewis' purse would've presumably been capped at 25%, Bowe relinquished the title. The duck looks even worse from Bowe's perspective.

Newman deliberately offered a ludicrous split he knew Lennox would never agree to then claimed it was Lennox backed out. Newman bragged Riddick doesn't have to fight Lewis to make $$$$$$$$$ He 'did OK against Ferguson & Dokes without any risk, why entertain Lewis???
They had a deal agreed to till Lennox destroyed Ruddock & that yellow streak attacked Riddick's back. That's when he ducked out

I see a lot of excuse making going on...Rock Newman's fault...high reward/low risk defenses that made him money...Bowe not a coward...

Let's be blunt and honest that Bowe was in no hurry to fight someone who very publicly stopped him as an amateur, and that is all. All the rest might or might not be true, but Bowe didn't want the fight because Lewis was demonstrably better.

No, not end of. Bowe was next to face Lennox in early 1995 but Lennox couldn't get past a single shot from sparring partner extraordinaire Oliver McCall.

Bowe wanted the fight badly. But like others stated Rock Newman went against Don King and the WBC and paid the price by trying to blaze his own trail and calling the shots.

My favourite part was when Newman allegedly tried to bluff the Lewis camp with a "winner-takes-all" offer. When Frank Maloney immediately accepted, the Bowe camp went quiet.

I remember Newman rearing his fugly head again around 2001 when promoting Lance Whitaker & that "GOOFi" stunt...

No, I can't see myself ducking an opponent who beat me in front of the whole world when we were amateurs and is now my mandatory challenger. I certainly wouldn't throw my belt in the trash.

Yes, I've competed in sports and I would never do something like that. I would want revenge.

I believe Rock Newman felt that there was a good chance Bowe would lose and he wasn't risking that. You'd have thought if Riddick wanted the fight though he'd have gotten it , he had to have been told how it would make him look in the eyes of the world. I think they both were probably in agreement on this GOAT duck.

Come on mate, you're way too hard on Riddick.Yes,he was lazy and wasn't exactly a model professional.
However Riddick had plenty of courage. He took tremendous punishment in his fights with Golota and
    showed incredible bravery.
I guess folks will always be influenced by that dumb stunt of Rock Newman.
