Mclarnin moved to Vancouver, Canada when he was 3, he learned how to fight there and was trained by Canadians. He identifed himself as Canadian his whoile life. He was born in Ireland but lived 90% of his youth in Canada which is where he learned how to fight.

Standard of living/quality of life is too high in Canada to create the environment/intangibles of a champion. FACT.

Decarie scored a nice victory over Alex Perez on HBO last week, putting him in line for another high profile fight. And since he's pretty good at what he does (and since JWW isn't that deep), it's not completely out of the question that he could spring another upset over a titleholder.

Pier Cote had a lackluster performance last time around, but is fun to watch.

As far as past fighters, we've got the aforementioned Dixon and Langford, plus HOF's in Lou Broulliaird and Mysterious Billy Smith. Gatti and McLarnin were born elsewhere but both retained Canadian citizenship throughout their lives.

He was trained and brought to America when he was 15 by an American. Never called himself Canadian, always called himself Irish. Hard luck pal.

Bute - Romanian.. Pascal - Hatian. Lewis - English/Jamaican. And too call McLarnin Canadian is Pathetic. There's a documentary on McLarnin called "Babyface goes to Hollywood", I thick you Canadians should check it out. Even just Google McLarnin.. He's Irish, get over it. He didn't even have a Canadian accent, his accent was American. He's as much American as he is Canadian. Swing and a miss, lads.

Bute, and Pascal: Canadian citizens fighting out of Montreal.

Lewis: Fought for Canada in the Olympics; continues to retain Canadian citizenship.

McLarnin: Grew up in Vancouver, fought professionally out of Van for the first few fights of his career before moving Stateside to get more fights. So he's Irish-Canadian, who like many fighters wound up moving to the States to ply his trade. Really...Not that difficult to understand.:deal

None of which were born in Canada. Bute was the only one who moved there out of his own free will. As soon as Lewis went pro he represented Britain. McLarnin never represented Canada. Daniel Day-Lewis has Irish citizenship.. he's still English. :deal

And Lewis hasn't had Canadian citizenship since he went pro.

Yeah, they generally place less value on the idea of citizenship and more value on the idea of birthplace.

That said, there have been some very good to all time great fighters who have been born on Canadian soil.
