When you return, you'll find that Jack Delaney was born Oliva Chapdelaine which got transformed to Jack Delaney because the ring announcer had difficulty pronouncing his name. And at that point (the 20's) if your name could be transformed into an Irish name, it often was, because Irish fighters made tons of money, especially when pitted against Jewish fighters, et al. Regarding Irish independence, it's very apparent that the Irish have had a clear sense of their own identity and culture for far longer than a few decades. Hence the multiple rebellions against the English through the centuries. But in terms of how this relates to the sport, Irish fighters were more likely to gain notice in the U.K in the 19th century because of geography. They were closer and it was easier for them to travel and gain experience in and knowledge of LPR fighting. Canadian fighters...Not quite as easy. As you said, the list is about the same length for each from that point forward. Either way, it's a fun topic to discuss. Hope to do this again.
As I said in my last comment mate, most of the stuff I have been sayin was all complete bias. Everybodys a bit bias when it comes to their own country (especially when you have two complete gimps talkin out of their arse.. o money and the other clown with rappers as his avatar), but past his best or not (although I know he was) he was completely dominated.. now he wasn't that far gone.
Same here pal. Now that we've got that issue out of the way we could have a proper discussion. but not right now cause Ive recorded a fight weeks ago but still haven't watched it or seen the result between Hernandez and Ross. So gonna watch that now after this fight in the Ukraine.
jesus i feel like im talking to a child, it seems like youve been watching boxing for about the same length of time you been on this forum, no more than a few months. using your thick skulled flawed logic: de la hoya is mexican, not american lewis is jamaican not from the uk every black fighter from anywhere other than africa is actually african including benn, eubank, joe louis, srr marciano and canzoneri are italian not american also even giving you mclarnin who is more canadian and american than irish our list of langford, burns, billy smith, godfrey, dixon- legit born and bred canadians shits all over your list of decent champs with only one ATG who never learned how to fight or ever even fought in ireland- a dude who nsver gave a **** about ireland and left when he was 3. but yeah go ahead and feel proud over a guy who your country had nothing to do with in regards to boxing, kinda pathetic really but if it makes you feel good that someone who was born in your country learned to fight elsewhere then go for it potna.
The trouble with Ireland is that there are too many thick nitwits like this McGuinty troll. Can't you just STFU and allow a perfectly good thread go to it's natural conclusion? Go back to the pub where there may be someone prepared to listen to your rhetoric.:nut
But Jimmy McLarnin is Irish. There is nothing Canadian about him, not even his accent. When he was 15 he left that country and never returned.. like Lennox Lewis. Do you really think they were Canadian? Get over youselves. Claimin fighters from other countries cause they lived in Canada for a few years is absolutely pathetic.
Lewis did represent Canada twice in the Olympics, though. Twice. Ultimately, he chose to represent Britain as a pro, but as an amateur he was certainly fighting for Canada while residing here. McLarnin may not have represented, but Lewis certainly did, at least for a time. And that;s something that should be acknowledged.:deal
Sorry Ireland, the greatest Irish fighter of all time has nothing to do with Ireland other than spending the first 3 years of his life there. But hey if it makes you feel better go ahead and be proud over someone who could barely walk by the time he left your country and learned everything he knows about boxing in Canada by Canadian trainers in Canadian gyms. Kinda pathetic but I understand you don't have much to cheer about. No one in Canada claims Lewis is Canadian but he represented Canada with boxing twice in the Olympics and learned to fight here, he repped Canada far more than McLarnin eve repped Ireland where he never learned to fight or even had one fight! But hey be super proud that as a child he spent his first 3 years there! Cause as far as boxing Ireland had absolutely nothing to do with him. atschatsch
Lemieux needs to be moved to the next level again. I know some people say he is young and should be moulded into a better boxer, move him along slowly, but I just feel he is the type of guy that is going to sink or swim. He's practicallly murdering the level of competition he's been facing and learning nothing from it, Lemieux is the type of boxer that needs to learn on the job. Even if he ends up with six losses he will always have that equelizer - his big time power. He is what he is. Pascal needs to throw the slick boxing out the window and just fight. After he injured himself tonight against Kaziemski he reverted back to what he does best and that is fight with nervous energy, tense like a wounded animal and when he decided to go, he commited to the attack. I don't think he should abandon his movement and fight like a pressure fighter but stop trying to be a defensive minded slickster like he opened with. Work on your cardio, hit a heavy bag and spar - that's it.
Pascal and Bute are the top marquee names Then you have Lemiux making his comeback Stevenson and Bizier are both on the verge of title shots Alvarez and Cote are coming up in the ranks Canada isnt doing too bad
