I was born and raised in Ontario, in the town Lennox grew up in. It has produced Lennox, from a pre teen to a man, Syd and Fitz Vanderpool, Chris Johnson and Donny Lalonde. That's not bad for a town of 250k, even if only 2 were elite. Really, you only have Quebec (Montreal) here as a hotbed for boxing with a real fan base and as has been said a lot, MMA is king up here. Having lived here most of my life with stints in Pittsburgh (when spadafora was a pseudo name), NYC, having travelled all over the US for sport, and having a spouse from Quebec, I've got to be exposed to typical english Canada, french Canada and some US sporting culture. Boxing is a fringe sport everywhere up here except in Montreal and a small pocket of Ontario. Other sports just are more culturally ingrained, and if a kid is going to do a combat sport, a lot seem to be moving to MMA. Yes, we have projects/hoods up here but they literally are a joke compared to the truly poor and criminal areas in the states, but even then I don't think you need to be poor, looking to escape an environment or desperate to want to fight ... but demographics and culture probably has a little to do with it. More cultural I think, boxing just isn't a traditional sport here. You dont see many guys stepping on the world stage coming straight outta india, or finland etc etc.

Does that disqualify him from making an objective statement about another country's sporting climate? Scandinavian countries have become far more diverse than you think in the last 20 years or so.
