Álvarez is starting to actually skim the hairline of Heron with the left hook, and get a piece of his left ear with the overhand right falling in. Álvarez's awkward aggression is starting to make Heron visibly uncomfortable, forcing almost nonstop clinches between periods of running behind a defensive get-off-me jab pumped haphazardly into the air. The long reach of Álvarez starting to come into play, just tossing leather in the direction of Heron's skull like a lawn-sprinkler from the outside, not caring if he makes contact with his clavicles, biceps, or jaw. The latter happens enough times for Heron to beat a hasty retreat.

Yeah, there's been a clear turnaround here, way too many rounds left for Heron to be looking this gassed & scared; upset could be starting to brew here...

 

Round 4

Álvarez is starting to catch Heron regularly with a short right hand dropped from up by his own face (he's two heads taller) into Heron's behind a blinding jab. This ambidextrous business may have been a stroke of brilliance if Heron based his game plan on a scouting report on Álvarez being a southpaw. Álvarez getting to Heron consistently, putting a hurt on him. Nothing but light jabs from Heron, all hitting the pinky side of Álvarez's gloves. WILD unpredictable rights being dropped in by Álvarez from mid-range, half of them missing outrageously but the other half grazing or stunning Heron.

Round 5

Álvarez is starting to clap Heron on either temple, rolling hooks into the sides of the skull while lurching inside, giving up his considerable height just long enough to connect a couple of times and envelop Heron in his tentacles and then release with a shove to further disorient his sense of equilibrium. Heron pulling down on the back of Álvarez's neck to buy some time. Álvarez fly-fishing with body shots from outside, and clanging his inner elbows against the upper mandible and sideburns of Heron walking through his trickle of desperate light jabs & occasional looping rights, and draping himself over him like a wet blanket, and stemming off his retreat.

Round 6

Álvarez is cloying to Heron, baiting him into exchanges in the pocket. Álvarez is caught by a looping right on the head and then dragged into a clinch. Álvarez is fluttering his own left jab past Heron's and simply toe-heeling inside, colliding with Heron and bumping him against the ropes. Body shots and facial uppercuts leaning inside by Álvarez. Shoeshine by Heron to get off the ropes.

Glad to hear The Boss is doing alright. He sort of disappeared off the face of the earth after he fought Yoan Pablo Hernández.

 

Round 7

Álvarez is stalking, caught at the very tip of some light Heron straight flurries and not really caring. Álvarez just cradling his left arm low, not quite a Philly shell, just shuffling zombie-like inside, applying inexorable juggernaut pressure. Eating a LOAD of jabs and straight flurries but just sending Heron scattering at every turn. Left-right-right by Álvarez, has the local prospect ROCKED badly, jelly legs as he separates from the ropes and finds he lacks the requisite balance to keep himself up, clinching.

Round 8

Álvarez has decided to answer the bell once more right-handed, eschewing his namesake lefty stance for nearly the entire match. They lean together after Heron fails to circle his way clear behind a flutter of jabs without feeling his back on the ropes. They exchange vicious digs on the body, Álvarez's seeming to have more effect although Heron is landing a higher volume of faster pit-pat stuff. Álvarez is shouldering his way in against Heron and clasping him with a pincer motion with both arms to pull him in close, then working uppercuts on the sternum and beard. Heron shoves his way free and starts jabbing the body at medium-close range. Heron's left eye is BADLY swollen, maybe a little cut. Really nasty looking. Álvarez walks him into the ropes, nearly pinning him there with his upper body smothering the face of Heron. Now the mouth of Heron is bleeding. Álvarez with jabs and uppercuts, pushing Heron into the ropes. Heron is holding on for dear life, wild shoeshine at the bell, he makes it.
