I think he should have taken the fight in 2023, or at least signed the fight at the end of the year... or negotiated it. But nothing happened so Benavidez moved up in weight. Which in hindsight was a smart move because Canelo and PBC ran into some issues.

I think that in 2021 and 2022 Canelo would have been the clear favorite against Benavidez. Less so in 2023 while now I would see the American as the favorite, who, not seeing the match with Canelo materialize, decided to move up to light heavyweight to have important fights, without having to suffer on the scale to make weight.

Thing is Canelo routinely runs through these fighters. People were complaining Davis was a mismatch and he nearly lost.

The guarantee is not the same. How do you think a promoter could pay Canelo the same for a Benavidez or scull fight when the scull fight will generate far less revenue?

Canelo gets paid a guarantee then a ppv cut on top.

. A Benavidez PPV would be 2 or 3 times more than those other opponents. PBC offered Canelo 70 million PLUS PPV to fight Benavidez so he was offered far more yet chose the sculls, mungia, berlangas. So the idea he would choose Benavidez over scull has been proven not to be true. He has proven happy to take far less money to fight mediocre opponents. PBCs first offer to Canelo in 2023 was Benavidez for 50 million, which he rejected and then made his cherry picking contract.

When was Canelo offered 70 million? I know Benavidez´s dad said something, but he is a **** talkers and hardly a reliable source.

Benavidez said it himself, plus it was reported by Coppinger. Is it really hard to believe he was offered a much bigger purse for a much bigger fight than Mungia or Berlanga? I don't understand why it's hard to believe.

I just don´t trust the sources, but I wouldn´t be surprised. My point is that Canelo won´t take these risky fights while he is getting exaggerated purse guarantees for much safer opponents. It was reported that Canelo made 35 mil against Berlanga and Munguia respectively.

Back in 2015/2017, Canelo got much smaller guarantees, thus he chased the most dangerous fights because those were the money fights. Now he weighs risk vs reward, which is unfortunate for the fans(I used to be a big Canelo fan. Used to be...).

I was wondering, Canelo will be 35 in July ,and he's only had 3 fights in the last 3 years . I know little of Scull but he's 32 and only had 23 fights so I doubt he has much wear and tear. Question: if Canelo takes him lightly does Scull have a reasonable chance at an upset,? I know he has as much of a chance at winning a decision as Biden does of making a political comeback , but upsets can rear their head after a certain age. Or did Canelo pick an opponent he can't lose to.?

I think Scull with his size and cuban style can make this a very ugly difficult fight for Canelo, who is well past his best for years imo.

I am one of those who thinks Canelo will win against Crawford because the weight classes are there for a reason. Then obviously my prediction could be wrong, as I often say the last word belongs to the ring.
