so what would be the benefit of ward coming into a 175 fight against smith at 171 in the summer of 2015? while allowing smith to come in at 176? when ward was at the full limit for all of his other LHW fights?

my theory is he was angling for a golovkin fight at 168 very soon after this....and was keeping his body in between 175-168 in case he had to go back....

He was coming back after a long layoff and coming down from around 200lbs. Testing how his body faired trying to make 168, hence him fighting PS.

You could be correct the truth is we'll never now, but what we do know is that right after this fight he admitted to not being able to make weight and moved up.

Listen I'm a Golovkin fan but Ward fighting and dominating at 175 trumps a lone victory over Golovkin. Now we need to know whether Ward wants to be truly great after his close " victory" over SK.

 

ward moved to 175 after golovkin and k2 told him no thanks to all of 2016...had golovkin been open to fighting its very likely he would have stayed at 168 till after that fight....ward said it was tough to make 168 and there werent any real fights for him there legacy wise other than ggg...so thats why he moved......the thing about ward is he would have fought golovkin and then gone to 175 and done what he has done....so dont question if ward truly wants to be great...question why golovkin doesnt

Ward ruled an old guard of 168, 175 is where he gets to cement his legacy. Kovalev gave him a scare and we won't get to see him in against the Beterbiev's and Gvozdyk's.
