I think James was born in Mexico, but raised in Texas. Mexican-born and the people in Texas love him. I'm Mexican American of French and Puerto Rican descent, my grandfather was Afro-Mex from Veracruz, a port in Mexico. Common to see alot of Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and people from the carribean there.

This is very true Chivito, there is a festival held in the Yucatan celebrating African ancestry. People from all over the carribean come to this festival.

I like Alvarez. I look forward to seeing him fight again. He has a good style, reminds me of Cotto a little, good technique.

Where is all of this insider info coming from? Saul Alvarez is 100% Mexican born in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco, Mexico. His father and sibllings all have dark hair, he inherited his red hair from his mother. being a readhead is not exclusive to "whites" or "Irish", and no he's not Puerto Rican!

Go back a page, that was already cleared up. :good

His mother also has a Mexican name (Ana Maria or something like that) but her father is supposedly from Ireland.

It's not just the red hair but the very pale skin and the freckles. It makes sense that he'd be 1/4 Irish.

To be fair the only thing out of place in that post was the word "arabs" - not sure what that was about.

Most Mexicans are a mix of Mediterranean whites (Spanish) and the indigenous peoples of Central America - aka mestizos.

edit: actually there is a sizable minority in Mexico of middle easterners, 1.1 million immigrants making up over 1% of the population according to Wikipedia. Salma Hayek, for instance, is one quarter Lebanese.

Updated things a little bit as Carlos Baldomir was announced as Canelo's next opponent.

I like this fight a lot..... good step for Alvarez.

He is easily one of my favorite up and comers.... but hes got a lot of work to do to become elite, but hes got a lot of time and fights against guys like Baldomir, who will test him but probably not push him over the edge are steps in the right direction.

Chavez Junior just called out Saul Alvarez and his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya (scene).

Of course the Golden Boy kicked his daddy's ass twice with Jr. sitting ringside and Saul called for a Mexican showdown several times no response until now.

I am pretty sure they could meet at a "catchweight" of 154 lbs, between MW (where Chavez fights but doesn't belong) and WW (a weight Canelo seemingly grew out).

Why not have it if Chavez Jr. beats Cotto?

    Alvarez answered Chavez Jr's call!

"He's nothing special, and except for his name,he's just like any other opponent"...Alvarez said. "I wish he would fight me,because a lot of people would talk about it" :deal

BTW, added a poll for Alvarez-Baldomir.
