I'm actually pretty excited for this one. This is NOT a walk in the park, the only legit losses Baldo suffered in the past decade were to Floyd and Forrest, and he beat half a dozen undefeated prospects. Should be an interesting fight.

There were many African slaves in the Spanish era, in fact, Mexico had also a big Filipino (and also the another way... Philippines recieved a big Mexican inmigration) & Chinese people from the Spanish rule (cuz Acapulco-Manila trade) but they were mostly in the southwest area... Mexico (well... still was "New Spain") abolished slavery in 1810, so all those African slaves were set free and got mixed... after got our independence from Spain we didn't recieve a masive black population inmigration again... I can say many Mexicans have Asian or African blood and they ignore it cuz Mexican goverment sold that "only Spanish + Amerindian" idea... :good

Saul Alvarez the first fighter to stop Carlos Baldomir in 14 years!

Just WOW! Canelo did the seemingly impossible and stopped platinum chinned Tata Baldomir in the 6th after dominating the fight. Here's not to get over-excited: Alvarez still looked a bit green on the defensive and got caught here and there vs. a 39 year-old, but Baldomir is a rugged, highly experienced top veteran who beat world welterweight champion Judah and Gatti at 36, and only legitimately lost to elite fighters Mayweather and Forrest in the past decade, excluding that debatable L vs Bonsu as a visitor.

Canelo didn't rush things - he never does, that's why many compare him to the young Cotto - in fact, you could sense a bit of concern on his face when he couldn't sell Baldomir his money counter left hook right away, but stayed calm and successfully found target for single shots, jabs, right hooks and body blows. He stepped up a bit in the 5th and let is all out in the 6th tagging an out-figured and tiring Baldo with monster shots, ultimately finishing the job with a hellatious counter left hook to the jaw that sent Tata to the canvas face first.

You gotta love out 20 year-old horse whisperer from Mexico, he refused to take Baldo's $12.000 penalty for coming in overweight - Baldomir was over the super-middleweight limit on fight night - and he wasn't delusional after his career best win and said the top of the welterweight division - where he's returning - might be 12 to 18 months away. He doesn't need the urge to rush things and he'll continue to develop vs. the right opposition and that's the way to do it. Superb performance!

Baldomir's comments on the KO: "It's true that he hits hard. He hits really hard. His power really surprised me. This kid is the real deal. And he's going to be a champion. No one has hit me like he hit me before. He knocked me out me and nobody has ever knocked me out."

Wasn't he knocked out in 1994 (knockout, not TKO)? What were the circumstances of that, anyone know? :think

This is still a monumental achievement. I love that halfway through the sixth Lampley is saying he lacks speed and Merchant chimes in that he doesn't have elite power.

I still question his chin, but what cant be questioned after last night is that his power is legit. He's developing at a good pace, I'd say he'll be ready for a title shot within a year, or maybe by next summer. While you dont rush a prospect like this, you also dont wanna keep them at the same level of opp for two long. I say one more gate keeper, then a contender, then get him a title shot. 147 isnt that deep, and Berto is chinny. Although at only 20..... I think eventually Canelo will develop into a full fledged 154 pouder.

154-160 could be really exciting in a few years with power punchers like Alvarez, and David Lemeuix around.

I agree that his chin is questionable and he takes too many shots in the face. But, his recovery rate is phenomenal. He takes a shot and almost immediately bounces back. I think that's probably due to his age advantage.

Jose cotto must have a hell of a good chin, cause he didn't go down and top of all that it wasn't his weight class.

you idiot, you do realize that this can be easily verified by someone who has ventured more than a mile outside the projects. you probably think they fly all those actors in from europe for the mexican cinema and television. i hate the fact that my tax dollars have to support such a waste of oxygen.
