What does that have to do with anything? Mayweather is just so brilliant that he doesn't have to be entertaining for people to be entertained. He still has stinkers though, his last 3 fights have been better then a lot of his previous fights because he doesn't have the legs to move like before. Fights he had against Baldomir and DLH are the kind of **** nobody wants to see, people want to see passion in fighting not being afraid to engage even when fighting a far more primitive fighter. Canelo isn't becoming a draw just because he's a pretty boy, he's becoming a draw because he goes for the KO even when well ahead. He fights with passion and people love that, that's why he is getting major buzz.
not every mexican is gonna fight like chavez and not every african american is gonna fight like mayweather. gtfo with that bull****
Being Mexican helps. They're the most passionate nationality when it comes to supporting their countrymen. Just look at how someone like marg can still have fans and supporters.
They're stereotypes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0G__PG4z8I#t=0m17s Hopkins talks about it there.
Yea man I know. Just some fools in here think race or nationality gives them greatness. Floyd and Manny are among the best because they train the hardest and fight the best; well, even though not always beating opponents at their prime or at the proper division, but it's obvious not many got those mad skills they have. If Floyd was white and still acting the same, it'd be no different. He'd be viewed like an Eminem or Howard Stern, white and controversial. Loved and hated by the masses. But it's his actions, not his color, that he wants people to view him as the bad guy.
I think the English fans are as if not more passionate then Mexicans. But yeah that's all I'm saying, people when talking about Alvarez say "He gets hit and he's slow" Well who said he was going to be an ATG? He's just a fun exciting young fighter who can draw better then 99% of the boxers out there. We need more fighters who can draw in this sport.
there are slick asian and white boxers too ] Some combination of Kirkland, Cotto, Dzinziruk, Omar Henry, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and **** it why not Pacquiao in the next couple of years could be cool.
Alvarez will do well against anyone that will trade with him...or slower fighters that won't. A good boxer with speed is going to make him look like a hype job, IMO.
First off inter, Cotto (Not Miguel the younger brother) is not a light puncher. His ko record is 67 percent in which is really good and shows he can punch when he lands clean. (Before he fought Alvarez, his last 3 fights were at ww and all was by ko's. Even though their records sucks but they are still pros.) Second off Why the bashing of Alvarez who just turn 20 years old 2 month ago? You know for a kid at his age with just 35 pro fights, it's very impressive.
3 of the 4 most successful African American fighters have been intelligent slicksters. Sugar Ray Leonard, Ali and Floyd Mayweather. Boxing has just gotten far less intelligent. So we get Mexican hype jobs like Margarito instead of real champions. Saul Alvarez does nothing special. He'll get beaten by his first legit opponent.
Agreed with those who can't comprehend the hype. I can't either. His physical appearance as a White looking Mexican must have everything to do with the fanaticism around this kid down there. He's a pretty good fighter, but not that ****ing good. Not even.
Ill say that im not quite sold on him ever being a truly elite fighter, im just not..... That, however, has no correlation to me liking him as a figter, I like his style, attitude, and just about everything he brings to the table as a young fighter, and IF he can improve fight in and fight out, add in some rare, hidden intangibles that will come to the surface during adversity, then yes im sure he can become an elite fighter.... But hes going to be a fan favorite regardless, and of course there is going to be hype around him, its completely understandable (young, exciting, powerful) And at the end of the day, as of now, hes got nothing but time to continue and try and improve. I will be rooting for him to continue to shine as he rises through the ranks. But that doesnt mean i think he will be ruling any divisions with an iron fist when he gets older, its simply too early for me to tell and hes still too much a work in progress.
