We already knew it, this should have been his 4th loss. By they way, I do not think Bivol is anything special.
He looked helpless against Bivol. And with his pink shorts, he looked like a 5 year old kid being beaten viciously by a grown up. He looked very bad, someone who never watched Canelo before could have wondered "Who matchmaked this fight??". Therefore it could be safe to say Canelo is finally exposed.
Happens when you take risks. Would have happened to GGG (but worse) if he had had the balls to fight Ward (just one division up).
There were many Canelo Alvarez worshipers who believed that Dmitry Bivol was going to be a human sacrifice like the others that he fought on or around Cinco De Mayo every year, instead the sacrifice became Alvarez. Bivol really did expose Canelo, strong pinpoint left jab as Alvarez came charging in, Dmitry had good solid defense, he also countered well. Many posters will say that Bivol was bigger, but when Canelo fought Sergey Kovolov, those posters were singing his praise even though Kovolov was bigger too, size did not matter because Alvarez won, but when it comes to Bivol, their lame defense will be he won because he is the bigger fighter. Both Kovolov and Bivol were light heavyweights. I have never been a fan of Canelo, I felt that his competition was cherry picked by Oscar De La Hoya with the exception of Floyd Mayweather, who gave Alvarez a boxing lesson.
I agree Richard. I do not consider Canelo to be a great fighter. He was hyped as the next great Mexican fighter, but under scrutiny his resume does not compare favorably to past Mexican greats. But there is a Mexican who is currently carrying on the rich boxing tradition of Mexico. And his name is Juan Francsico Estrada. A man who is not afraid to fight the very best in the sport and go at it like a real man in the ring.
Imagine for a moment that you are Canelo and that during the prime 5 rounds you hit underdog Bivol with several combos from every angle and with all the power that allowed you to beat all the others you have faced before. Imagine the frustration you feel to see that Bivol absorb all your blows without batting an eye and then he counterattacks in the way that allowed him to outclass you. Normal he was defeated. Nothing strange imo and Canelos size in this case doesnt matter.
To me, I thought that Canelo Alvarez with his human sacrifice of Cinco De Mayo fights was treading on Cherry Picked opponents with the possibility of Hometown Cooking at the usual venue of his fights. Both Mayweather and Bivol took care of any doubt of the outcome when it came to the officiating of his bouts. If they fight again, Bivol will win again. I am not into sticking behind a fighter because of ethnic background and my own, I follow a fighter win lose or draw from beginning to the end. Dmitry Bivol sure impressed me.
I will say that Canelo has an excellent chin so it is difficult to knock him out. The judges almost robbed Mayweather and Bivol. Like Hagler said, you have to bring your own judges to the fight. For a power puncher like Hagler that is easier to do. Bivol and Mayweather are not big punchers.
