Canelo wouldn't have gone near him before he retired in 2017

Andre would not have been a much bigger man either... Canelo spent a lot of his career draining right down. There was a time where he didn't want anything to do with 160.

Now the competition has gone he is just picking up the pieces at various weight levels.

Now that Canelo is the A-side with his horse meat beating up TAILOR MADE opponents like Smith you all get a hard on?

Andre Ward knew the art of boxing & didn't have any real special physical gifts.

Andre Ward is superior. Only thing I can knock is he loved to clinch.

Canelo's claim to fame are still his competitive fights with GGG.

If you get excited by him beating a shot Kovalev and tailor made Smith you're just a fanboy. Who doesn't care about context.

Ward was good, but gets way too overrated. The man only had 9 Title bouts in his career, and refused to fight anyone without his hometown pocket judges. Canelo has already surpassed him, and there is still more to come. Ward is a decent commentator though, as long as he's not talking about himself.

I don't think he beat GGG but he beat Kovalev who beat Ward first time imo.
Beat Trout, Lara, Smith, Jacobs etc. He arguably has a better resume at Ward's weight classes and he started two divisions lighter.

The version of Kovalev who fought Ward was a far better fighter then when he fought Canelo

At 175 Ward got a gift vs. Kovalev and won because of repeated low blows in the rematch. At 168 he cleaned house though with wins over Kessler, Froch, etcetera.

Alvarez fought Mayweather when he was still green and had to shed two extra pounds to make the fight happen. He did well and learned a lot. I thought Golovkin beat him twice but those fights were great and a case can be made for a legit Alvarez win in the rematch. Yes, he was caught using steroids. He has been the man at 154, 160, and 168. He knocked a game but faded Kovalev the F out but isn't the guy at 175 yet, time will tell. He has done a lot but he is still in his prime.

    Alvarez gets my vote.

How can you still be "green" when you are a world champion with 8 years of professional experience?

Agreed. Obviously he has gotten better since and he wasn't peak yet. But he wasn't green.

Because Canelos wins usually have an asterisk. From catchweights to rehydration clauses, short notice camps, Clenbuterol, facing faded names like Kovalev (who was shot at that point). Canelo also has multiple suspect wins over GGG, Trout and Lara. One suspect draw over GGG.

If Canelo faced Bivol, or Beterbiev the victory would have weighed as much as Ward beating Kovalev.

Ward by contrast faced and beat a monster Kovalev, Froch, Kessler and didn’t have the multiple asterisks by each fight.

I’d say award but Canelo with 2/3 more good/great wins could equal or even overtake him
