Well, lets say 1m casual fans try to buy fight. I guarantee you that a huge percentage will forget to cancel until the next month (so thats $20), some will forget for 6 months, otherwise might forget for years. Then, some casuals will leave their subscription for another big fight. Finally, some casuals might just like the product.

Subscriptions are tricky things, you actually spend more than the $10, a lot more. In fact, the subscription style is much better for hardcore fans then what I think it does to casuals.

That is why they do a first free month. I forgot to even cancel mine, and I usually stay on top of these things. Beyond that, websites will make it ambiguous in terms of cancelling. At least 50% of the people who sign up for a free month end up paying.

The key is once they are in they then see the other content avaliable. Initially people could sign up just for a Canelo fight but it's up to DAZN to show those people the proposed value is good so they don't cancel.

That may very well happen, and perhaps my comment came right after watching the Lampley exit monologue and I was a bit caught up haha.
With that said, and perhaps this is pessimistic, but I could see this becoming even more secular than boxing already is. Espn has espn+, do you think they will have ANY pre fight coverage of DaZN fights? I doubt it, I guess my fear is that boxing slips further in to the unknown. I would love to bring proven wrong and have this be the best thing to happen to the sport in decades.

It wouldn't work if it was just on TV. Having an app on your phone/tablet is where it's at. People will get used to opening the DAZN app the month they have it for Canelo, then missing it when they don't have it. Even if they just catch one other event it will be enough for people to keep it.

Some months I don't watch much netflix, but I don't cancel it even if it's easy to do so. This is the right idea for fans. An easy, relatively inexpensive choice to watch what you want. Much better than lengthy expensive subscriptions for 100s of TV channels you couldn't care less about.

DAZN suffered a gut punch when Anthony Joshua-Povetkin only resulted in 15,000 downloaded apps.

    So they overpaid for Canelo.

And, to their great relief, Canelo delivered with the app downloads.

Canelo remains the #1 fighter in the sport. Joshua remains a UK domestic attraction.

I guess it would. Well, at least for now when the majority of people prefer to watch sports on their TVs. The main reason for DAZN to go "the Netflix way" was not to make it available on more platforms (like phones, tables, etc.) but to bypass the TV channels distribution companies, which take a huge percentage of profits for themselves.

God, I hope DAZN doesn´t go the HBO route and can every fighter that takes an L on their shows.
One of the ways HBO ****ed themselves was they kept showcasing new fighters and rarely featured the same fighters(besides the biggest names).

But the Anti DAZN brigade on here were laughing at them only the other day. Sounds like they may of jumped the gun a bit there. SIT DOWN YOU BIG DOSSERS. You should be welcoming cheap Boxing not spitting at it because Eddie Hearn works for them.

Canelo is a Britney Spears of boxing. A mediocrity that is backed up by money and wins all the awards over more talented musicians.
