Really wasn't looking forward to it anyway. Junior made quite a bit of money in his career, and that's a good thing, but I wish he never started boxing. His father left far too high a bar for him to even come close to matching and it's a huge disappointment every time I watch him fight. That coming forward with his head down defence sucks, and then when he finally manages to get inside all you get to see is a slow left hook to the body before the opponent moves off and repeats the pattern. Perhaps his father should have named him Ernesto Chavez and people wouldn't expect so much.
As long as he fights him I'm ok with when it happened. But now it becomes a case by case thing because GG is a year older and around the age when fighters start to slip.
Sal, he lost all of his respect in the boxing world dun. Before the GG debacle did anyone ever call Canelo a ***** or puto? Never.
Good. I understand it's a "huge" fight but I don't care to see it. A win over Liam Smith > a win over Chavez Jr. and I'd like to see Alvarez fight the best, soooo...
"Never" haha, what? Were you around then? Actually yeah, a lot of people did. From the moment he debuted on HBO until now, tons of haters for various reasons throughout.
You can call anyone anything but nobody called Canelo a ***** or puto back then. And im talking universally.
I wouldn't go that far but Saunders is definetly a better and more challenging fight than Chavez @ 165.
Yeah. They did. A lot. Back when he was groomed up against Cotto and Baldomir and then all the puto and ***** name calling was sky high for Canelo with the way he won his first world title against Matty Hatton that was back in 2010-2011. It was among the lamer ways to win a title but nothing we haven't seen from novices and legends alike. Defenses against Rhodes, Cintron, Gomez... Canelo was regularly called a puto and ***** back then for each of those. I argued against that thought near daily on here, citing how many his age were in headgear still or were in their opening career stretch of facing guys with 5-12 records. Some were hushed by the Trout win, but that also woke up the same crowd who continued to hate on Canelo.
So let me get this straight a win over a guy whose best win is John Thompson is better than a win over a guy with wins over Andy Lee, Marco Antonio Rubio, Zbik and Vera, Okay.
It's 2017 now, bud. Beating Smith last year when Canelo beat him means more than beating Chavez Jr next May would.
