You're right they do, and Canelo is by all rights a Super Middleweight, so maybe he should go up and face an actual Super Middleweight at this point. Liam Smith was target practice, Chavez will be throwing back, and Canelo's punches will have little effect on him. You're waaaaay off on this one. Please someone other than me do a Liam Smith or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. who's the better opponent thread.
I think you rate Chavez Jr much, much higher than I do. That's fine. P.S. "and Canelo is by all rights a Super Middleweight," ? Is that right, CST? So, answer me, how many times has he fought at Super Middleweight? He is, by all rights and reality, a Middleweight. He dropped back down a division, made weight, and took back one of the straps at the division from an undefeated top 10 ranked fighter. Chavez Jr is not a title holder, not undefeated, not top 10 ranked, hasn't looked good in many years, and has particularly looked bad recently, and that's only when he hasn't been suspended or hanging out doing light workouts in his living room during that time frame. See: "making weight" in that textbook of yours.
No I don't rate Chavez Jr. all that highly, I just rate him higher than a domestic level Smith brother, as do most other relatively sane people. He like Chavez Jr. is a weight cutter fighting one to two weight divisions lower than he should be, because just like Chavez Jr. he likes picking on smaller guys that he can rehydrate an exorbitant amount on fight night and pummel with ease, its a Mexico vs. Mexico fight, it'll sell well, I don't give a damn about rankings or wins or losses, I'm sure I'm also not alone in wanting to see this match for quite some time now. And for the record Julio looked pretty damn good in his last match, which is about the best that can be said about Canelo's last two opponents.
For me a Canelo - Chavez fight is a fight between two losers a non event. BOTH have backed out of fights Talked trash then wimped out. Neither possess the cojones of a REAL fighter & champion. If it happens I'll pass
Well it's because you must not have been on the forums back when Canelo signed to fight Hatton and the two whole years after that. I was in the vocal minority in defending him back then.
Just admit it... you'll be too busy to watch cause you'll be finishing up your beautiful painting of Antonio Margarito dancing with angels in heaven.
Dude Alvarez weighs the same as most JMWs today how are you supposedly a mod and are spreading propaganda shouldn't you have some type of respectability about you and not nut hug like the average stan on here.
Stan? Really? Of all the annoying phrases used by this generation, that one take top 5 honors, its mind numbingly annoying, and no I was never given a list of rules of what I could and couldn't say, or who I could or couldn't root for. And quite frankly I don't care who respects me or doesn't respect, nor will I ever, my opinions and tastes are non-negotiable, if you don't like them, oh well. And for the record most of the other top JMW's are terrified weight cutters too afraid to dip their toe in the shark tank 6 pounds up north.
I do rate a chavez win a bit higher than smith for a couple reasons. Chavez has proven to be the better fighter up til now resume wise, and head to head as of today I think Chavez would beat smith up due to his huge size advantage. So if I rate jr higher historically, and he would win h2h today, i dont have much basis to rate a smith win as more meaningful. Thats just me tho. And thats just the thing with Chavez. Hes huge. What if Chavez came into a Canelo fight in beast mode, looking at his best, outweighing canelo by a significant margin on fight night... and actually caused the upset. Canelo would have lost to him due strictly to the huge size disparity. Why would I want that? Granted, its not likely to happen and he will be the solid favorite to win for good reason, but still... Id prefer to see Canelo fight people his size... and if he loses its not because he was the smaller fighter. Just imo
Ya he got a lot of crap for being groomed the way he was. But many mexicans themselves didnt turn on him until he handed his belt to Golovkin... it definitely went up a level after that... fair or not.
Dun, you do know that i mean universally right? Are you telling me now that the hate is the same as it was for Canelo today as it was back then?
Tony Margarito was a FIGHTER!! Had steel balls fight anyone anywhere anytime Canelo, Chavez, Mayweather , Dela Hoya etc he'd kick all their asses no problem. They couldn't beat him in the ring but he was in the way so they railroaded him. Tony is a classic example of a Mexican FIGHTER like that wimp Pollo described. Pollo was just daydreaming about being a real fighter himself. Boxing is THE FIGHT GAME!!! not the Prima Donnas coming out party like Mayweather , Canelo etc prance around in
To me Chavez Jr has been a bully, but not the talk **** bully. He always needed a size advantage and when he finally fought someone his size he got his ass tko'd. Hell he got his ass whooped by guys smaller than him lol... I wanted Jr to be somebody but he became a joke who doesn't take the sport seriously. He's now a money option who is feeding off of his daddy's name. He didn't deserve to be in a lot of fights that he's gotten but this is boxing and money talks.
