Saying he weighs the ~same ~ is a bit of an exaggeration tho. Ya his size advantages in the last few years have been overblown by fans, but he has still carried about a 5 to 10lb weight advantage in almost every single fight of his, and probably has never once been outweighed in the ring. Not as big a deal as some make... but hes not exactly a regular sized 154lber eather. Dudes a tank.
I agree with the top half, and as far as the second part goes I just want to see Chavez (possibly) beat Canelo into submission, so I may be biased. I'd like to see Canelo get the Fonfara treatment for a change.
I guess a thing called integrity is a lost concept but fair enough, also what sharks a supposedly shot Cotto managed to become champ of the division the top MWs are who Saunders who looked like crap vs a nobody, Jacobs who has the durability of Khan, and GGG who's best win us a 147er with one decent win to his name. GGG could turn out to be a shark but at this point is unwilling to do what it takes to make quality fights. The guys at JMW would get more respect beating each other than the clowns at 160.
I feel you. Honestly, it isn't as dramatic as you might be thinking. Many of the ones losing sleep over it now are the same ones who hated him for fighting Hatton for a 147, wait 150, wait 151, wait just full out 154 title back then.
I do have intergrity, which is why I won't buckle and say what you or anyone else wants me to say. Funny a guy calls me out for lacking integrity and then turns around and pretends like Martinez wasn't a half dead one legged gimp when Cotto fought him.
All the bad press Canelo and Chavez jr got and are getting is 100% their own fault. Neither have shown that they have the courage & cojones needed to be a champion. They've both acted like prima donna's not like FIGHTERS!!!!!! This fight is a waste of time
Didn't that same Martinez beat Murray the fight before, and even if you say Murray won he struggled vs the same version Cotto KO'd
Outside of Khan and Mayweather who himself was a 2 time JMW Champ who are these guys he had a huge advantage over? Trout,Angulo,Kirkland were all 170+, Smith was on record being 170, Lara was 167 compared to 170 for Canelo Cotto has been 165+ for years so who are these guys he has this big advantage over.
Barely and he was badly compromised and looked terrible in doing so, then you're leaving out the little thing where he had to have surgery on his knee afterward, which was so debilitating that he was on crutches up until Jan or Feb of 2014. His knee was completely gone, it started to go in the Chavez fight, the Murray fight exacerbated it, the surgery finished him off. Give it up, you like Sergio have no leg to stand on.
It doesn't matter if Canelo gets half the credit or no credit. His career is not dependent on Golovkin. Canelo is fresh in his prime, he has many more rivalries to go through the years to come.
The topic of my post you quoted was about Canelo's standing in the GGG situation, as much as you try to twist it. I don't care what you think about how It'll effect Canelo's overall career.
Martinez injured himself in the first half of the Murray fight and literally beat him on one leg the rest of the fight, Cotto KO' d him in 8/9 rds that says a lot about 160 and considering Cottos following performances vs Geale and Alvarez it's really no way you can say the injury was the only reason he won. Although I like that pun made me laugh a little bit so thumbs up
I didnt say he has a HUGE advantage, did I. I said its overblown. Meaning, his weight advantages is exaggerated by fans and it hasn't been as much as gets played upon by his critics. I said he doesn't weigh ~the same~ as most of his opponents (within a lb or two) ~ fact I said hes had around a 5lb weight advantage on most of his opponents. With maybe two exceptions (trout and maybe Kirkland) Lara was 166, Canelo was 171 ~ 5lbs Khan ~ nuff said (canelo didn't allow himself to be weighed) ~ probably 7lbs at least Mayweather 150, Canelo 165 ~ 15lbs Angulo was 170, Canelo 174 ~ 4lbs He has actually stopped allowing himself to be weighed so his weight against cotto Kirkland and smith arent known (i believe) but fighters stop stepping on scales for a reason. If you dont think he outweighed cotto by at least 5lbs i dont know what to tell you. I said hes never been outweighed in the ring (as a champion) ~ fact I said hes not a normal sized 154lber and built like a tank So... Not exactly sure what you're trying to dispute in my post...
