I like Canelo, but Hagler would have simply steamrollered him.

I know GGG fanatics like to claim GGG was this monster at MW who certainly would stand a great chance agaisnt the greats of boxing past, but quite frankly we don't know and it's nearly impossible to tell. Like most ATGs we did not see how he faired against top fighters as a young prime fighter, or in his absolute peak.

All we have to gauge him with is a close tight fight against Jacobs a chinny fellow who he himself is limited as a fighter, and Canelo another tight fight who many people including GGG fanatics claim is extremely limited and to a degree, if compared to ATGs from even the 90s, its true to some degree.

Its very difficult to make a good strong argument that a fighter with a weak resume and who is a Non-ATG would beat an ATG, especially in their respective division.

exactly. Hagler would have been too strong and he would break up Canelo. Not a good fight for Canelo. Hagler is not a good fight for GGG either.. He was a very strong and solid fighter who had a great right jab in the southpaw stance and very strong and good counterpuncher.. underrated puncher. 52 knockouts in 62 wins.

Yes that’s fair enough, his best years were somewhat wasted through K2 being tight and lack of opposition.
I think we can put to bed the Carl Froch,Andre Ward thing though,I mean I may be a fan of his but I can see both would of been too big,too much for him.

Lol. Canelo is good but not great like Hagler at 160. I think you are just looking for attention with this thread. Great work!

Seriously, Hagler would have feasted on this guy. Destroyed him in 5 rounds or less. Mismatch

I think that you forgot bout prime Hagler. I think that he slices Canelo to ribbons ala Alan Minter style.

Hagler was not the puncher GGG was it seems, but I am not sure. He was a solid counterpuncher and puncher. He had 52 knockouts in 62 fights. Not bad. He knew how to break guys down better than GGG. GGG steamrolls guys with aggression. The kind of thing which GGG could never do to someone as strong as Marvin who counterpunched like Marvin from the southpaw stance, and remember a 75 inch reach. That reach is near cruiserweight or smaller heavyweight reach, which most people do not realize. Marvin would have worked on Canelo to the body and head in a way GGG doesn't know how and got the stoppage. i think Marvin was just too strong.. Marvin had a weakness. When he thought a guy was a pushover he would sometimes go a little too relaxed, but if he had a guy there who people thought could beat him and he felt threatened by he would be a totally different fighter. Why do you think Leonard tried to kiss Marvin's ass in the prefight.. Saying he was his friend. Ray knew exactly what he was doing. Don't get Hagler mad like Hearns did. That is when he fights his best.

Less sturdy and less skilled fighters went the distance with Hagler or definitely went longer than 5 rounds anyway. Canelo is competitive with the Hagler that Duran met all day long. It is not a mismatch
