How well do you see Canelo doing against a slick pure boxer like Kalambay? Would Canelo be able to use his defensive and counter punching skills to win convincingly or would Kalambay's jab, defense, and movement cause Canelo problems? This could be a very close fight IMO.
Canelo is a better counter puncher than Kalambay was, Jacobs only had success when he pressed Canelo and made him gas, I feel Jacobs reach bothered Canelo but he`s longer than Kalambay was and bigger, he walked through Canelo`s shots yet Kalambay was knocked out by one shot when he fought Nunn, I don`t think Sumbu has the style to bother Canelo and he was as hard to hit as Floyd was, it would be like the Khan fight.
I pick Kalambay by decision. He was that good. I would have loved to have seen Julian Jackson vs. Canelo.
Mark, you're new avatar is confusing me! I think that the Nunn loss is probably the closest to a fluke or freak loss I've seen in boxing. In my opinion, it was the 1 in 100 chance that actually happened. Sumbu definitely has the skills to hang and best Canelo IMO.
JJ gets quite overrated as a MW. If Canelo could deal with the power of GGG who is also much more skilled than Jackson, I doubt he would trouble Canelo very much. I would pick Kalambay however to do what Jacobs attempted to do and take a narrow decision.
All you need to do is watch Canelo vs Lara, if you for some reason want to know how this one would play out. Thing is, Lara's no Kalambay... You figure it out from there.
Not for me! I think Canelo handled a way to inactive Lara. I do think Kalambays movement will trouble Canelo in that way, but I envision Kalambay to be much more active and stronger.
I think Canelo looked substantially improved against Jacobs, though. Also, Kalambay was probably around the same weight in the ring as Lara at 154 while Canelo is both somewhat bigger and somewhat less drained at 160 than he was 154. Still, though... Kalambay was damned slick. Don't know if Canelo would catch up with him often enough.
