Yes I am saying that. PBC before had Showtime prepared to bankroll purses but now the PBC do not have showtime. Amazon have already shown they are not really backing PBC significantly and I think they are not prepared to put up the risk expecting a return on PPV buys.

Just look at the purse Canelo received for the Charlo fight:

For the Benavidez fight Canelo would likely be looking for a guarantee of $35 million minimum plus the PPV back-end earnings. You need a broadcaster prepared to put up this money and PBC do not have that anymore.

Where are they getting the money from now that they don't have Showtime's backing.

They couldn't even secure 35 million for Canelo-Jermall.

It's a bad look to lose the face of boxing.

It is extremely bad hen the fighter signs a three fight deal and only fights once. When do you read fighters walking away from promotional contracts? It doesnt happen but clearly Canelo signed that deal with certain guarantees and PBC could not deliver them hence they were probably quite content to see Canelo walk away as they just do not have the funds to make the remaining two fights on the deal.

The optics are not a good look and going forward how do the PBC manage to sign fighters in demand when they become available? If you cannot even fulfill an agreement with the biggest star in the sport, you have big problems!!

Matchroom and Dazn would have lost money on some of the Canelo fights they staged but still made the fights as thats what was agreed. That is a far better look than the fighter leaving before the end of his deal. Hearn doesnt look like an idiot and then less than a year later it looks like Canelo will go back to Matchroom as they have already proven to Canelo they fulfill a contract.

Matchroom look like a serious promotional company while the PBC now look like a company that makes promises which cannot be trusted.

Where do you think showtime got the money to pay Canelos previous purses?

    Bingo!

If you aspire to be a huge star PBC is not a promotion you're considering after this.

100% agreed on the inactivity. How can you expect to build stars when people see them once in a blue moon? Its not only a problem for PBC but it definitely is apparent with their promotion.

Showtime sports had a budget to fund those purses and then the higher ups decided they were not even going to fund it anymore hence the PBC needing to find a new broadcaster.

The amount of fighters they have signed I just do not see how they will be able to get them out fighting. The deal with Amazon was announced in December and now Dan Rafael has tweeted that the first non ppv show broadcast will not happen until June at the earliest.

Seriously what kind of deal is this? This is a broadcast deal where the broadcaster is not really interested. A legit broadcast deal would have been announced in Dec and not soon after the PBC would have announced shows which would be happening over the 1st half of 2024.

I'm actually really interested to know what the deal with PBC and amazon actually is. Are they on some sort of trial period? How tight is the leash? What's Amazon's investment?

Alarm bells were ringing in my head when the deal was announced as the press release was missing those key details. It had no mention of the amount of shows per year and had no mention of the value of the deal. That told me that this wasnt a serious deal and if Amazon are paying they clearly are not paying very much.

PBC killed Showtime with over paid fights no one wanted to watch. Without a sucker to cover the over inflated contract , signed fighter will leave in droves.

So you think they just put in their own money? How do they make a profit from the event?

I put just as much blame on showtime for allowing that to happen. The broadcaster has leverage and the power to tell the promoter what fights they want to see. They seemed to just be happy with providing a budget and then let PBC do whatever they wanted with that budget even if that meant no box office stars were being produced.
