David Haye and Carl Frampton have suggested that Canelo move up to Cruiser and take on Maris Breidis. Does anybody here envision Canelo being able to pick up a belt at the weight, and if so against whom?
Of course he could get a title there because the division is now lame. Briedis moving most likely to HW, Usyk & Gassiev already did. The division is left without any real deals. Of course Canelo won't face Dorticos or Okolie, because it they will smash him, but the rest of the division just sucks and Canelo probably wins.
He would be TINY at the weight. Hes short at 168, hes notably small at 175. He'd look like a child in against someone like Okolie.
Maybe if he goes all Holyfield with HGH. Sulaiman would probably have his back, if he gets busted by VADA anyway. "Mexico always had a big HGH problem, as they use it to grow their chile peppers bigger". That said... he wouldn't get past the likes of Briedis anyway. Maybe in Vegas, with his favorite judges and a referee that steps in to break the action everytime he gets hurt too much.
At 175, he was getting his ears boxed off by a pitty patting shot to hell frail weight drained Kovalev, who had he not knocked him out in the 11th, we'd all be talking about how Kovalev was brutally robbed. Granted, Kovalev is a masterful boxer, but even this version, whose chin is completely gone, was able to soak up Canelo's best shots until he started gassing. This is after he came within a hair of being stopped just over 2 months before by Yarde. So a fully healthy fully recovered well rested Kovalev with a full training camp, probably would have beaten him. So aside from taking on the featherfists at that weight, I doubt he'd fare all that well at Light Heavyweight. Cruiserweight is a 25 pound leap from 175. He gets massacred.
There are some guys <= 5'9 in the cruiserweight division: Dzemal Bosnjak, 61st Serik Musadilov, 99th Aboulaye Diane, 49th Brandon Glanton, 15th Thabiso Mchunu, 3rd So well, I believe Canelo could be TOP25 @cruiserweight and even TOP50 @Heavyweight.
Get him in with Makabu Id watch .. a short (for CW) southpaw too.. I'd love to see cinnamon battered around the ring.. Canelo probably weighs around 185 to 190 in downtime right now so it's not unfeasible that he could bulk up to cruiserweight, he'd just be a much slower fighter at the weight
Calling it now. Canelo fights and knocks out Breidis at cruiserweight. Breidis will pitty patty all night then all of a sudden get ktfo like fixed fight Kovalev
