what boomers dont understand is that athletes have generally progressed across all sports, just take a look at sports with objective scoring criteria and you shall see

its hard for me to believe this is not the case with boxing as well and that a modern elite level fighter would struggle against elite level fighters of the past

    Greb ?
A bit of a mystery since no one on this forum ever saw him fight, but from the eye-witness evidence and the legacy, he probably handles Canelo.

    Hagler ?
My money would be on marvellous Marvin.
Canelo probably hears the final (15th ) bell, but the judges cards are a formality.

    Tito?

    Canelo stops Tito mid rounds.
    Maybe earlier.

if no one ever seen him fight then how you gonna pick him over someone who has 40+ fights available to watch on youtube?
grebb was fighting farmers in an era before running water and electricity. I think athletes have evolved a tad since then.

    respect

Have you seen Hagler fight? He was a ****ing machine.

160 lbs in 1983 weighs the same as 160 lbs in 2020.

Heavyweights are different, big boppers 6'5 to 6'9 fighting at 250 - 260 lbs these days

That's why I said it was a bit of a mystery.
And this part..."no one ever seen him fight"... is incorrect.
Thousands did. Just not anyone on here now.

But whether any film remains or not, he still has a record. We know who he fought, and how the fights went.

Suppose that by some miracle, all of the video of Canelo's fights got 'lost' and folks on ESB in 2060 (yes, it will still be there :D), were arguing over Canelo and the 2060 MW champion.

By 2060, you would be an old timer.

What would you think of the argument from some young whipper-snapper born twenty years from now that you can't pick Canelo over 2060 champ because..."no one here has ever seen him fight."

Yes he fought a lot of lower level types (as has Canelo) but he also has many notable wins, including a win over Gene Tunney who twice beat Jack Dempsey.

Like I said, it's a bit of a mystery as to how a Greb -Canelo fight would unfold.

im not talking solely about physical attributes

sure, humans have gotten taller over the years and now there are ridiculously tall heavyweights, but training knowledge has increased over the years as well (in all sports really, not just in boxing)

this is most evident in athletics or even chess which is solely based on knowledge about the game, current world champion magnus carlsen would have a pretty easy day against chess champions of the past, heck even today's top 10 players would not have much trouble

At 160 Tito would lose to, Pavlik, Martinez, GGG, Canelo, Charlo, Taylor, Saunders and a host of other MWs since then.

    He has ONE semi-decent W at 160.
