Canelo will tame David. It will be physical because Canelo cant ever separate himself from his opponents (on the cards) and he's older, but Canelo has Benavidez number. Gavril had some success counter punching and Canelo is an elite counter puncher. David has a similar approach to GGG albeit not as effective. Nonetheless I think David will look meh if he cant come forward. Canelo's style for past 5 years is come forward. Speaking of coming forward, if Canelo does fight Benavidez coming forward David will be in trouble. Canelo is too small for David and will get phone booth distance which neutralizes Benavidez long arms and reach. Canelo by decision...even at this stage of his career.
I very much disagree. I think Canelo has every conceivable advantage there except for stamina. But taking clean punches from the likes of Plant and Andrade for the opening rounds is another thing completely to doing it from Canelo for the full 12, if it goes that long. That long upper body is just made for Canelo's patented left hook to the liver. And when he bring out his arms to protect it, he's exposed to uppercuts and hooks to the temple. But hopefully we'll find out for sure sooner rather than later.
Stop bringing up the Gavril fight. It was 6 years ago, he was very green/20(!) years old. He is much more experienced now and a very big threat for Canelo. He will be the first opponent since GGG, that wont just fight from the back foot and try to outbox him. He will make it a dog fight and he will try to break Canelo down. Ofcourse that wont be easy and Canelo could potentially earn his respect with hard precise counters that could hurt David and back him up, like he did with his previous opponents. Lets hope this fight happens.
Benevidez will kill Canelo`s stamina with body shots, he will walk Cnelo down and making him work at a pace that he can`t cope with.
Kovalev never threw his right hand cause he was scared of the counter hook, all he threw was jabs, Benevidez wll be far more aggressive.
David has fast hands that can put Combinations together, but leaves himself open to counters which is Canelo's strong suit. He had GGG and Kovalev cautious of those counters so the more hittable Benavidez isn't escaping them. However, Canelo today doesn't really show the workrate or defensive responsibility to consistently dodge combinations, especially against bigger fighters. He is pretty much pot-shotting at this point. Benavidez also has a very good and long ramming jab. Jab is the one punch that has consistently troubled Canelo.
Body punching Canelo is considerably harder than actually beating him. Even GGG who was an elite body puncher, unlike David, abandoned it, cautious of the counters.
I think Canelo's counters will disrupt his rhytm and force him to be gradually more cautious with lower output. He could actually end on the defensive or otherwise on his back. Benavidez might have strength, chin and stamina to rival prime GGG, but he hasn't got the skill. He gets hit way too much to fare well against Canelo.
