I wasn't scoring it too closely. I didn't say it was even. Bivol clearly won but it was not one-sided or dominant. And Canelo losing had more to do with Canelo being too complacent and staying on the ropes too long and getting hit with shots that he is capable of avoiding in rounds that he could have won if he had better defense. Anotherwords, he landed enough good punches to win rounds that he lost, but his defense let him down in those rounds and he let Bivol steal rounds by getting hit with shots he didn't need to be hit with, or not finishing rounds strong. Canelo won maybe 4 or 5 rounds, 3 at worst. Round 9 was Canelo's best round. It was pretty back and forth over the first 9. Canelo roughed up Bivol along the ropes at times, had some success but he could not stack rounds one after the other. He would have a good round, then the next round would lose, it seemed to just flip flop like that for most of the fight until the end where Bivol won the late rounds to win the fight. If you think it was 11-1 or 10-2 you literally don't know what you're watching.
He was simply too complete for Canelo too fast could counter him and could control range and dictate distance when need be. Bivol is a master boxer who has been underrated for years.
I like you Shadow. having said that no. it wasn't back and forth it was Bivol outlanding Canelo by a substantial amount and Canelo blowing hard from the mid rounds. I know because I commented throughout the fight on the RBR. Bivol was disciplined and didn't get drawn into exchanges on the inside and was frustrating Canelo for most of the fight.
Canelo has fallen in love with his power too much. The arm punching thing was a good strategy against Callum Smith but you can't come in against Bivol with such a basic strategy.
How'd you score it Pimp? I was at a watch party wasn't scoring it too closely. I thought it was pretty back and forth until the last few rounds. Bivol won but I thought Canelo put up a pretty good fight at times, and had his moments. Bivol had some nice counters though, after Canelo landed that great uppercut to the chin with Bivol along the ropes, Bivol made sure to counter with some nice counter shots of his own. Canelo was just outclassed by a more technical boxer but the fact that Canelo competed with Bivol at 175, Canelo really has no business fighting above 160, the fact that he did as well as he did still says a lot about how supremely capable Canelo is even at much higher weights than he should be at. I just wonder where Canelo goes now. Does he go right back into an immediate rematch with Bivol? Can he beat Bivol at 175 with a better preparation? Sergio Mora seemed to think so. Or does he move back down to 168 to fight GGG? Or does he challenge Bivol to a Title fight at 168? Where should he go from here?
Always the feet. His lead feet will always get him in trouble against a good mover. Plant frustrated him but could not keep the fight in the middle of the ring. He landed good punches but nothing thunderous. Ginger spent good time on the ropes waiting for Bivol to swing and overcommit which never happened. It was obvious which team had a working plan. Zero chance Canelo fights Beterbiev. Bivol was too strong for him. AB will clobber him.
I watched it at a sports bar and didn't do an offical score but I thought bivol clearly won. I think canelo and his team underestimated bivol. He should've fought Beterbiev who he would've beaten. Bivol is a boxer who's bigger faster a horrible styles match up to be honest. If I'm canelo I don't rematch him I move down and fight guys at 168. I don't think he heats bivol in the rematch because bivol is the better boxer.
Agreed that he would have had an easier time with Beterbiev stylistically, the only worry there is that he's not as elusive at 175 and could actually get caught with something big against Beterbiev. The slower Canelo at 175 is a problem, he's capable of beating Bivol or Beterbiev if he just wasn't carrying all that extra weight because it makes him lethargic and easier to hit. Yes Bivol clearly won but on a round by round basis it still seemed pretty close and back and forth until the late rounds. He wasn't getting dominated or anything. He was hanging in there, he just seemed unmotivated as the fight wore on and didn't have his usual gas tank, maybe it was the vegan diet.
Bivol was outworking him but neither were landing many clean punches. Bivol did start landing more clean shots later in the fight which was mostly due to Canelo being too complacent along the ropes. It seemed like Canelo was uncharacteristically distracted at times, and just sort of let himself get hit with shots he normally avoids. Something was definitely off with Canelo, whether it was him carrying extra weight, the vegan diet, but of course Bivol fought a fantastic fight and that had a lot to do with the result. Will be interesting to see if Canelo rededicates himself and goes straight into a rematch with Bivol.
Hes not Mexican, American or British so the American media doesnt know or care. If you're from EE, Asia or Africa nobody gives a flying **** about you.
Canelo won the first 4 rounds though and was ahead after 9. Bivol needed to win 10, 11 and 12. Lucky for him Canelo gassed late.
