According to Steve Kim. That's a huge amount of pressure. Oscar is predicting 2.5 million, but I think people are still underestimating how bad May/Pac hurt the sport. I seriously had a friend who's a casual tell me the other day, "Mayweather/Pacquiao was the first boxing fight I've ever bought and the last." I think a lot of people still feel this way. With that said, I don't think it reaches a million. And if it did 500K, as Dan Rafael says people would be jumping out of windows .... I think HBO and Showtime will have a lot of reavauating to do regarding the PPV model after this fight if it does fail to reach its benchmark. What say you? Do they reach 1 mill? I think the only fight that would get over that is either May/Pac 2 or maybe May/GGG.
@NashvilleBoxing: @truewest007 @steveucnlive If $1m is break even, and it does 700k, GBP and ROC would be splitting a ballpark $10m loss. Holy. Damn. Ouch
Casuals are what make PPV jump over the 1 mill mark and I haven't heard a single casual talk about this fight. Seriously!!! Where's the buzz for it? 🤔 I'm expecting 700K-800K
The built in rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico will probably be enough to put it over a mill at least.
They will start building the gallows on Sunday morning to hang all the accountants and managers that wrote checks the company they worked for couldn't cash!
I don't even think Pacquiao and Mayweather can reach a million when holding a card by themselves anymore, and they have more star power individually than Canelo and Cotto have combined. True statement!
No they don't give a damn you're totally right, but there's probably enough hardcore PR and Mexican fans to crest a mill or at least close to it. The fight has been quasi in the works for 2 years anyway.
I hope so. Plus considering the periscope and stream dilemma. Idk. It seems like a long shot. Remember how much hype Rousey/Holm got from causals? It didnt even make 1.4 million and that fight sold 70K seats for an arena. Casuals make or break PPV. It's tougher than people think. Hardcores are only a small piece but casuals make it or break it.
I agree the casuals are very important, and I'm really hoping the casuals know enough about Cotto and Canelo from past PPV's with May and Pac that it may spark their interest a little. But the more I think about it, you may be right, it might be a bomb which will be a real pity, because I don't see how this fight won't live up to the hype. I'll give you something to get else excited about, the Miura-Vargas match on the undercard will be way more brutal and exciting than the main event. They're both murderous punchers with high KO ratios with iron chins.:scaredas::dealIts gonna be savage. It has FOTY written all over it.
