GGG can't fight Canelo the same way he fought Brook. He can't walk straight in, and he certainly can't throw that left hook with such wreckless abandonment.

I think Canelo has some of the best on the ropes, upper body movement, and counterpunching ability in boxing. He could certainly land some hard shots against GGG.

I'm not sure who would win in the center of the ring, but it's pretty damn close to a 50/50 fight all around.

Not sure if Canelo will take the challenge though because it will be a BRUTAL fight. To be honest, I don't even know if I want to watch that one. Not sure I like seeing people get damaged to that extent.

I see Canelo as having little to no chance vs GGG @ 160.

Canelo doesn't even have a punchers chance against Gennady at legit MW.

Golovkin would make Canelo a good boy in 8 or fewer rounds.

I don't know. It's really hard to say. Perhaps GGG didn't take Brook seriously, but he threw a lot of wild shots in there and was countered repeatedly.

Granted, I've never see GGG this wild before, so it's hard to say what his mentality will be going into a fight with Canelo. His best bet would be to approach the fight like he approached the fight against Lemieux.

Actually he can fight Canelo the same way he fought Brook, since Canelo was at times being overwhelmed by Kirkland and isn't as defensively gifted as Brook, and according to Matthew Hatton.... Canelo isn't as big a puncher as Brook. GGG can and will walk right through him.

;) I think GGG will "JAB Canelo to DEATH", if they ever fight. That was wicked... the way GGG schooled Lemieux.

Lol, how old was Canelo when he fought Matthew Hatton?

    Kirkland
Fortunately for Canelo, he won't need to be the agressor against GGG, and he actually has above average defense and actually uses head and waist movement to slip punches unlike Lemieux who has been KTFO by Rubio and doesn't know what defense is and is a C, B level fighter at best.

Because Canelo fights like DL right?? LOL

Canelo actually has a good defensive game, much better than anyone GGG has fought. You need to watch more Canelo fights. Start with the trout fight and see w hwite slick fighter in action.

I don't know. I think Lemieux is better than you give him credit for, but styles make fights. GGG was just the wrong style for Lemieux. I do agree that Lemieux's defense is no where near the same level as Canelo's. Honestly, Canelo has some of the best defense in the game, despite having painfully slow feet. Canelo makes up for it by being measured, accurate, deliberate, and with his upper body movement.

I agree that Canelo should not be the aggressor. GGG's best bet is to try to outbox Canelo initially by keeping Canelo on the end of his jab, but in the event that he cannot convincingly do that, he'll have to put pressure on a very sound counterpunching fighter with power, which is a dangerous situation.

Honestly, I think it's a 50/50 fight. The problem is, Canelo doesn't want it and GGG is getting older. Like I said, I'm not a fan of watching two guys kill eachother, but Canelo did pick boxing as his sport. That's just the nature of the game. It's unfair to both fans and GGG to wait until GGG is even older.

At this point, the fight is even, so they should just go ahead and make the damn fight.

Maybe if we all believe Canelo can win, his team will start believing he can win?

Is that what this thread is trying to accomplish?

35 wins 26 KO's (74% KO ratio) going into the Hatton fight, since the Hatton fight he's 13 wins 7 KO's (53% KO ratio). So if anything his supposedly immense power seems to be waning with age.:deal:

GGG gets his Canelo payday and Canelo gets GGGs scalp.

I agree with Isal about Canelo's defence.

I clearly remember (his last few bouts anyway) being impressed with Saul's, maybe not so obvious ability to NOT be hit. Canelo seems to be harder to hit than most casual/borderline hardcore fans think.

Even considering Canelo's defensive ability, and overall skill (which is no doubt top notch), I don't feel it will be enough to beat GGG @ 160.

If Saul didn't have a natural size advantage over Cotto, I'm not so sure he would've gotten the win, at the least the cards would've almost certainly been closer (no hate to Canelo for this, Cotto was due to defend his MW title).

As good as Saul is, I'm almost certain Gennady is just a overall higher quality pro boxer. I'm more certain that GGG would beat Canelo than I was when I knew PBF was going to UD Pac.

    What a rookie comment.

Incase you haven't noticed Canelo has been fighting stellar opposition these last few years. In fact it puts GGGs resume to shame.

Hhmmmm... O$car doesn't think Canelo can win, that's why Canelo surrendered the belt.

Other Boxers & Boxing experts don't give Canelo much of a chance to beat GGG. Most here seem to think GGG would win... if the fight happens in the next year or so.

IMO... this fight doesn't happen in 2017.

What a "IDKSAB rookie belief" if you actually truly think Canelo is a big puncher. He's got average power at best, he didn't rock Cotto as bad as Mayweather did, enough said.

You are aware that the Kirkland and Khan matches were staged for the sole purpose of getting him highlight reel KO's to fool the casuals into thinking he's a monstrous puncher right?
