I wouldn't agree that Benavidez is better defensively. He's quite open to being hit. Not a great counter puncher either. His selling point has been to be bigger, stronger, more durable and have a better engine than the opponent. He has overwhelmed his opponents, not outslicked anybody.

I want Canelo to fight Benavidez, but let's not kid ourselves - Benavidez best win is a points victory over Plant. He's getting a lot of hype on a weak resume and much of that is down to Canelo's reluctance to face him.

I don't think he's quite as good as advertised, but hopefully we'll find out.

Show me any recent fight where Benavidez is getting tagged cleanly and consistently. His high guard is very solid and he partially blocks most incoming shots. He does imploy head movement and is capable of landing heavy counters, at range and at distance.

You are so caught up in his size that you are missing the subtle things he does.

Canelo sees all of it, though...

Plant, Andrade and even Dirrell landed a fair amount on him, even while being mostly concerned at what was coming at them. And those are the best he has faced.

Then I'll save you the trouble. Plant outlanded DB in exactly one round for the entire fight and was getting credited for surviving and making Benavidez chase him.

Andrade had some success flurrying, but at a low connect percentage comparable to Plant.

Munguia got hit more easily than any Canelo opponent in recent memory.

I think the kid gets KOd if he faces a big puncher... but we'll see.

Don't know what that says about his head movement and countering ability....

As I said he keeps his opponents on the back foot and reluctant to open up, but when they do he's not that hard to hit imo. I think Canelo will land plenty on him if they meet, which I hope they will. Maybe Benavidez can outwork him and win most rounds of the last half of the fight and secure a point decision, but not likely. I can see Canelo winning a fairly close decision that many here will call a robbery, though.

I don't think he stop Benavidez either, so most likely a decision. And of course poster that now scream about weight bullying will say that Benavidez was drained.

    But hopefully we'll see.

Are you daft? Munguina weighed much more than Canelo. Was much bigger. You should be banned for such nonsense.

Well, Benavidez has moved up now. He may very well be drained if he goes back down to 168.

I doubt he puts on any weight for 175, just drains less. He's probably in the 190's as it is.
