Never seemed to phase Chavez, Jr. in the slightest and Canelo was winging some hard shots.

This might not be a good sign for Canelo as he moves up to the division. I think he might want to stay away from big punchers with size like Jacobs.

Lemieux could be an interesting fight, though, because Lemeiux has limited skill much as is the case with Chavez, Jr.

Still, this was not an impressive fight for either Alvarez or Chavez, in my opinion. For someone who loves to punch and brawl, Canelo might need to become more of a boxer to survive in the middleweight ranks.

I would not put Alvarez in with GGG anytime soon. That's asking for trouble.

I'd give it a few more years until GGG has really slipped badly.

I think I'd be more scared to put Canelo in with Jacobs than GGG, and that's saying a lot.

Jacobs could seriously go like 12-0 rounds on Canelo. Just with the height, speed and power.

Canelo has had a good run, but I think MW is the end. At least if this is what his power will be like against other MW's.

Alvarez was never a huge puncher. He outweighed Lovemore N'Dou by like 15-20 pounds in the ring, and went a hard 12 rounds with the midget 140 pound old man. He couldn't hurt old arse Shane Mosely. He couldn't even knock down Alfredo Angulo. Alvarez stops the chinny. He goes rounds with the sturdy.

Oscar has steered him clear of Golovkin this long. I doubt Oscar lets him anywhere near Jacobs or Charlo. He will find Lemieux and Stevens types, or Euro level guys for him to fight.

I give Canelo credit for some sound boxing early in the fight tonight. He had a good guard and kept his chin tucked.

Still, the power wasn't there and he always gets tired in fights.

There is no way he could compete with Jacobs. No chance. Maybe he can hang with a faded GGG, but I can't see any way in which he can beat Jacobs.

    Yeah, that sounds about right.

I haven't watched Charlo so I can't comment on him.

When has Canelo looked like a puncher in any division? Of course he wasn't going to knock out Chavez.

34 KO's in 48 fights coming into tonight. You'd think there was some power there.

He has highlight-reel KO'd people like Kahn and Kirkland.

With his physical size, though, not having power at MW might be a bad sign for him.

He was the IBF 154 pound champ, the guy that stopped Julian Williams his last fight out. He's moved up to middleweight now.

Fortunately for Canelo, MW is weak. Other than GGG there are no big punchers. And there are no big names either.

Same thing goes for SMW if he ever decides to move there in a couple of years.

Exactly, Khan and Kirkland. And all those KO's are from nothing fights when he was building up. He was never going to have power at MW, he's a true MW and the only spectacular knockouts he's had are against the aforementioned small/weak chinned fighters.
He's not and never will be a puncher, that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
