Canelo failing to stop Charlo is just as poor as Charlo's refusal to engage

I mean, for all the talk we have on Charlo running around the ring rather than engaging which was poor on his part, its just as worse for Canelo. I mean think about,

Canelo has been on a losing streak as far as knockouts go lately. Its no where he can't even knock out a guy from 2 weight divisions below. Not to mention Charlo was a hand pick which some people will disagree by arguing it was Charlo who asked for the fight, yet the end result is Canelo still signed the contract even though he had plenty of options at 168 for bigger, stronger fighters he could've chose to go up against (namely Benavidez). Therefore it is a hand pick. Its even worse when you take into account Canelo being on the record stating he now feels 100% again since his injury has healed. He battered Charlo with body shots and kept cutting off the ring to negate the speed advantage. To top it off it hurts even more when you consider Canelo has fought so many guys like Charlo (Mayweather, Bivol, Trout, Lara, etc) who have that stick and move style.

So you mean to tell me at 100% with all these things going for him in his favor...he still couldn't stop Charlo? What lol.

I mean its no wonder Charlo bragged about the outcome. Even he expected to get knocked out by the bigger, stronger man and was surprised when he learned Canelo couldn't do it. Not to mention Charlo had a clean face in the press conference.

If Canelo is one of the top P4P greats known for stopping people, then we have to give Charlo his accolades as having top P4P defense & survival skills. We cant use the excuse of "well Canelo's faded because he was in his last few fights", not when Canelo himself has said he now 100% back. Now, was Canelo lying? Maybe. We don't know because the fight never pushed him for us to find out, so we have to assume Canelo was 100%.

This fight was a bigger win for Charlo than it was Canelo.

Canelo tried to make it a fight, Charlo lost all his confidence once Canelo started countering him to the body and up top. Charlo didn't hold up his part of the deal. We all knew this was a mismatch though. Well most of us did.

    Delusional.

Do you even know boxing? Its much harder to stop an opponent who doesnt willingfully engage and is on his bike for 95% of the fight.

No one calls Canelo a stoppage machine either against world level comp. He is a pretty good not not great and certainly not elite finisher. 85% of his stoppages against world level comp has come in rounds 9-12.

Canelo has still dropped most his opposition. GGG, Jacobs, Bivol, BJS (who quit on stool), Callum, Cotto, Floyd and Lara are his only opponents in the last decade to not touch the canvas and majority of them have never been knocked down.

    The OPs conclusion...
This fight was a bigger win for Charlo than it was Canelo.

    At 168

Callum Smith has never been dropped or stopped

GGG has one of the best chins ever and has never been dropped or stopped

Juan Ryder is very tough and has only been stopped once and that was down at 160 and he's obviously way better at 168 than he was down there. I think the KD he suffered against Clenelo is the only time in his career he's been off his feet

Jermello is tough and has only been dropped once and he fought purely to survive

BJS 2.0 was stopped albeit on a facial injury.
    Plant was stopped.
    Rocky From Stocky was stopped.
    Yildirim was stopped.

    At 175

Bivol has never been dropped or stopped and all those guys he's fighting at that weight are heavier or much heavier than him

Kovalev was knocked out albeit he was a pale shadow of his former self

    Horrible assessment.

It can be extremely difficult to stop a quality fighter in their prime whose sole mission in the fight is to last the distance and gives you no opportunities to mount effective offense.

The notion it's just as bad that Canelo didn't stop a guy who constantly was on the move and barely threw any punches, as the one trying to survive, is just a ludicrous assessment.

I'm kinda with the OP on this one. I think that pretty much any of the fighters commonly referred to as Mexican Greats (especially having concluded that they were in little to no danger), would have thrown more punches to try to end it. It's not like the pitiful herbivore was successful in eluding Canelo, who appeared to cut off the ring with casual expertise throughout the 12 rds.

Seems to me he could have got the chicken**** into the corner and flat beat him down. I don't understand why he didn't try. He never looked tired. Maybe he didn't want to appear to have to make an effort? Didn't want to muss his hair? In the interviews leading up to the fight (which I rarely watch as I don't want to not like them because of some stupid thing they might say) he seemed to have some level of respect (at least for wide distribution) for the heritage of Great Mexican Boxers whom he wishes to consider himself in the company of. So that kind of contradicts some vanity play.

You can see I'm goin' around in circles here.

So wtf? Canelo (and nearly everybody else, myself included) knew that Charlo putting up much of a fight was unlikely. So why not at least be emphatic about it? So buyer beware? Is he at his house giggling that he ****ed me out of my 90 bucks? The undercard turned out to be **** as well.

Canelo hit a wall several years ago when it comes to knocking out opponents. This guy is 5’8” and realistically more like 5’7” and started off at 147. 3 weight classes up, against bigger world class opponents, on the decline in his physical abilities, yeah I think I could see why he wouldn’t be a devastating puncher at 168.

Yes the Charlo sister would have been stopped if it was Kanagawa heavy artillery scoring hits on Saturday night but unfortunately it wasn't, so you should learn to moderate your expectations OP

    /end of discussion

Getting serious, it is difficult to stop an unengaged opponent on his bike or shelled up all night. It took Inoue 11 rounds to stop Paul Butler

A younger Canelo might have stopped him but he has mileage on him & is slowing down, loads up for his big shots & doesn't throw many combos

Hard to stop a fighter who isn't willing to fight back. Nothing wrong with Canelo's decision victory.

Silly OP. It's like people trying to blame Spence for Mikey Garcia running around the ring. Same fight and it's exactly the comparison I made prior to Canelo/Charlo.

I always buy PPVs, but even I did not purchase this one. Just wasn't interested because I knew what it would look like. Will be the same if Canelo fights Crawford. Dumb matchup.
