Canelo finally lists his price for fighting Benavidez: $150 or 200 million

Of course it's acceptable. He can ask for whatever he wants. Whether he gets it or not is a different story.

You think that Mr. Excellency would even entertain Bemavidez, he's just a fighter lol. His response to the post said it all. Canelo never addressed him because that's not how that type of business happens.

 

I'm just debating the opposite side of the ones here that think he can't ask for his amount or that he's somehow forced to do business how they think all of sudden when he never has. If your thoughts are always at odds with the ones who actually are in the position making the decsions, maybe you're not seeing the picture clearly. Not saying you specifically but just angry fans in general. I wasn't really looking forward to a Mungia fight or anyone else besides Benavidez if we're being honest. But I don't get to make those decisions I'm just the consumer that has a choice to buy or not to buy. I do have faith we'll see the fight because Canelo has fought any and everyone for a long time, long enough to not bother me if he takes his time getting to the next one.

 

This quote does not support your argument. Being "unhappy" with a purse and "thinking" you are going to make more is not the same as demanding a guaranteed figure.

Again, please show me where Tyson Fury has demanded 100 million to fight Usyk.

It sets a precedent for that amount of money and it was being floated the same way Canelo floated weirdly similar numbers. It's almost as if he heard the same thing I did. Again if Fury can expect and get a number like that, why can't Canelo? You haven't given any good reason besides you don't like him.

Fury and Usyk were at a negotiation table and discussing percentages of a purse split from a known sum. Canelo was a press conference for another fight, has not negotiated to fight Benavidez, and has no idea how much the Saudis even want to put up for the fight.

It's not a serious offer. Not yet, anyway.

And if Fury had conducted himself in this manner, he'd have gotten nothing from the Saudis. You don't ask for a guarantee up front; you get the table and see what's what, then work out your percentage.

What Canelo did is known as a priceout. The Saudis don't care about making or losing money from a fight. What's money to them? LOL. They want to put on the fights that interest THEM, not the rest of the world. They don't care about Canelo being the biggest draw.

Brits and heavyweights interest them. Usyk's demographic (Ukraine) interests them. Russians interest them. A pair of SMW Mexicans?

I don't need to produce a quote when there's a whole video out there of Arum saying what I posted word for word. You're just stirring over semantics at this point. What Canelo did was reference the biggest offers out there, as the biggest fighter in the sport. You really believe it's a coincidence that the 2 numbers he said match the range of Arums interview exactly? Just out of the blue? And you still, over so many posts can't give me a reason it's a problem beyond you don't like Canelo.

 

Canelo can ask for what he wants... so long as he's at a negotiation table and knows how much the Saudis are putting up for the fight. How can you ask for 200 million if they are only putting up 100? The point is to NOT sign to fight Jaime Munguia, get your ass to the table, and work out the percentage split based on what is being allocated towards the fight.

Canelo was in hiding for months, even became a free agent, and had ample time to try and negotiate something. He hasn't.

I find that you are just too stubborn to realize the nuanced differences between a negotiated percentage split and a number pulled out from someone's ass... while that person pisses on the idea of fighting the opponent in question and calls him a nobody.

The Saudis have demonstrated no particular interest in Canelo Alvarez, nor has he in them. He has admited that 60 million isn't enough to fight Benavidez and countered with an astronomical figure that is not feasible unless the guarantors don't care about losing money.

The Saudis may well lose on Fury/Usyk, but that's the fight they want.

We have fans of boxing correctly calling this a duck.

Then we have fans of businessmen talking about how it's a smart business decision.

Personally I don't care how much potential earnings Canelo has.

 

Fans can call it a duck, but fans can also recognize that he is fighting another undefeated fighter in his prime in Munguia who has more wins than Benavidez, has been more active and his been arguably more impressive throughout his career than Benavidez.

We all want to see Canelo Benavidez, or Benavidez vs the winner of Canelo vs Munguia. But at the same time Canelo continues to challenge himself against top competition. So I understand the criticism of Canelo not fighting Benavidez, but at the same time he does deserve credit for taking on Munguia.

If he beats Munguia, there seems to be a chance that he'll fight Benavidez in September, at least according to Benavidez. if Canelo ends up fighting Munguia and Benavidez back to back it would be hard to criticize that. So I would say, put your outrage on hold, we have a great fight in May, and lets see what happens there and after that. What if Munguia upsets Canelo and becomes Undisputed? Then we could see Munguia vs Benavidez which would also be a great fight.

 

The place where you will continue to be upset is thinking your plan for his fights matters more than his own lol. It was never the plan to fight him in May, there has never been any indication of it. Also you blindly believe real negotiations happen in the public and over youtube videos wtf. Quiet time is when fights get made not when you see smear interviews everywhere, especially when it comes to Alvarez. The guys been a star for over a decade, I'd say that's more than enough time to see and undersrand how he moves. It's been funny as hell watching you squirm unable to address why it's OK for Tyson to expect that much money and not the bigger star in Canelo though. Still not a single reason besides cause you don't like him.

 

I'm beginning to wonder if that humiliating beating Dmitry Bivol gave Canelo did more than folk thought. Since then hes been seen prancing around wearing a silly crown claiming to be the King of Boxing!!!! lol Also as the King he can fight who he wants when he wants & there's no one can stop him. He's totally lost all sense of reality in my opinion I think Bivol took Canelo's soul.
Really,in the way he has been protected since he took over the mantle from Floyd, he has had the same free reign too because he took over as Vegas big $$$$$$$$$$$ maker.
All I hope is when Canelo / Munguia do meet that its a good fight with the better man on the night getting the win he deserves & no judging jiggery pokery from either side. No I wont be buying the fight myself but wish them both well May the Best man win
