i think canelo is his likely next opponent unless he comes to his senses about pac getting 50/50. i actually wouldn't mind canelo... im prolly one of the few that doesn't think canelo is just a "product of hype" - sure he's "hyped" more than his actual talent, but that doesn't mean he's still not a legitimately dangerous fighter. he hits hard as hell. . . defensively, he's a little inept, but he's not completely helpless like a Margarito, or even Angulo. . . He's more of the "boxer-puncher"/mid range hooker, than brawler/inside fighter. . . also, he's really not THAT slow. . . just average speed. . . BUt he puts his combinations together nicely - throwing nice, crisp hooks to the head, and body, and setting it up with a decent jab/straight right. But aside from Canelo, who are some other oppoent choices? Sergio MAYBE. . . But I don't think he brings enough to the table, for the risk he presents. . . Ortiz rematch (or Berto/Ortiz winner)? Maybe. . . Still kind of a story line left there. . . Who else is there? Devon Alexander?
I doubt it..he has shown no interest in fighting him at this point...He would fight Martinez before Canelo.
Hope so. . . But I'm just being realistic. . . Don't think FLoyd takes the risk for what Martinez brings to the table. . . Althugh I see Floyd beating Sergio without much problem. Canelo brings more to the table financially - a LOT more. .
Depends how canelo looks against Shane. Him or Khan seem the most likely choice. I doubt hell fight martinez, who isnt much of a draw anyway.
Cause he wants fans to think his fight with Cotto is competitive. . . And he doesn't wanna talk about his "next" opponent before he beats Cotto. . . I do think Cotto ccan very well play spoiler - not very likely, but he's got as good of a chance as just about anyone.
Ahh, forgot about my boy KING KHAN! Yeah, once Khan dispatches of Peterson May 19th, and then moves up to WW and proves his mettle there by beating a guy like Alexander, he'll have a great shot atthe fight.
That is what they said about the #3 in the world Shane Mosley, after the Marquez fight. I'm just being realistic too.:deal Martinez brings more to the table...he headlines more cards for one...you may be right because Alvarez is under GBP, and Floyd has a good working relationship with GBP...but I've seen items like this said in the past.. For instance, I heard Floyd would not fight a younger guy in his 20's....he did but all the excuses in the world started coming up...just saying. As for "risk," it's a perception that he fights bums and don't take risks....in reality he hasn't fought a non top 3 in their division and/or non top 10 in the world since 2005.
People are underestimating Canelo. This was a talent that was beating up grown men at 15 and 16 yrs old.
I agree about the perception of him fighting bums - but he hasn't exactly fought "the best" either. . . Well, the Mosley fight was "the most" profitable fight at the time, so he fought him. . . Sergio is FAR from the most profitable fight right now. . .
True, although he was old he had just brutally dispatched of someone mayweathet Had supposedly ducked... and after pac turned down Moseley even at 140 many were shocked may stepped up.
True, but I think Floyd wants this fight down the road...not this year. He wants Canelo to become a lot bigger than what he is now...in truth, Canelo is not a very big name...they could still build it as they did with Ortiz...but I think Floyd wants this fight to be bigger, and expects Canelo to keep winning for another year before he'll fight him. Floyd even downgraded Canelo, when they were talking about who his next opponent would be on May 5.
