According to LA Times, the figure came in near 1.1M. Great number but below the first fight.

An official statement released by Golden Boy read, “We will not be releasing overall figures for the fight but between a terrific gate, a very successful linear PPV buy rate and an explosion in digital PPV sales, Canelo-Golovkin II was a more successful event than its predecessor.”

I see the numbers are below expections that GB hoped for, so we may well see a 3rd fight in May with Canelo holds all the cards.

If there's one good thing that has come from these robberies it's that GGG is getting the paydays he deserved.

If they hadn't robbed him in GGG-Canelo 1 there would be no GGG-Canelo 2, and now he's looking at 3 big paydays.

The money isn't for us fans, but it's good to see a little justice.

Another reason is that GGG is simply not that much of a draw.

He's a good draw but not worth as much to Vegas as Canelo.

    Not PPV-wise.

Around 150-200k? I think Canelo was doing 500k?

Canelo obviously the bigger draw, but he probably doesn't do GGG numbers with anyone else in the division at present.

Good for everyone involved. Fight was great. Many feel GGG won. He'll get his chance again and another fat payday. Canelo walked thru him tho.

Vast majority. He hurt Canelo this time, but didn't finish.

Did anyone even read that open letter? Oscar in so many words admitted this is why he didn't get the nod in the first fight. Yeah GGG does well on HBO TV, but he needs name opponents to sell PPVs. The Eastern Europeans in general aren't needle movers.

So it did less PPV buys than Canelo's match with Chavez Jr?

    Hmmmm...

@Bollywooden and @ElCyclon You guys are both correct. The problem is these guys have no extreme extrovert personality. A trolling aside the fight was everything I love in a battle it was 2 guys meeting on level ground. HBO dropped the ball with the promo and only boxing fans paid for this event.

Look at that debacle of a PPV Mayweather vs McGregor last year. That was all showmanship at it's finest. It was a ****ing circus and the public ate that up to the tune of $600 million dollars. This fight should have done major numbers but it was only boxing fans who really cared to buy. The casuals are who put you over.

Also Canelo needs to stop pretending like he doesn't speak or understand English. He's faking it and its not helping.

    Yeah.

Considering the hype machine and all the drama for the rematch, Golovkin is the same exact draw as Chavez Jr in the United States.
