After the first two Canelo GGG fights, much was made of the press scores and how they favored GGG, particularly in the first fight. Pretty much any time you discussed either of those fights, someone would link you to the press scores to argue GGG won. For the last 4-5 years, the press scores were pretty much the go-to argument for why GGG should have won. However after the 3rd fight, I haven't seen any talk about what the press scores were and how they compared to the official judges scores? I can't even seem to find any press scores for the 3rd fight. On the night, the general consensus was that Canelo won the fight wide and people were shocked that the official judges had it so close. Yet since then, I've encountered several posters trying to argue it was actually a very close fight. This is where the press scores should be referenced to show what the consensus media scores were and how they compared to the people arguing it was close like 7-5 Canelo, instead of 10-2 Canelo or 9-3 Canelo which was the general impression of how wide it was right after the fight happened. So where are the press scores for the 3rd fight and why aren't they being talked about and referenced like they were in the first two fights?
I'm going to do some digging and see what I can find. Thus far here's what I found : CBS Sports 118-110 Canelo Yahoo Sports 120-108 Canelo Those are some very wide scores. https://www.cbssports.com/boxing/ne...an-star-earns-decision-to-close-trilogy/live/ The undisputed super middleweight champion cruised to a big win in Las Vegas on Saturday night This time around, Alvarez left little debate that he was the better fighter, though the scorecards may have reflected a closer fight than actually took place. Alvarez dominated the fight with defense and a strong combination of wide overhand rights, jabs and left hooks. Golovkin spent the first eight rounds working behind a largely ineffective jab, seemingly digging himself a deep hole on the scorecards. In the first two rounds, Golovkin had only landed two of 32 total jabs. While Alvarez had promised a knockout, he never needed to shift to a higher gear to shoot for the finish, instead working over Golovkin with simple and crisp boxing. https://sports.yahoo.com/canelo-alvarez-gennadiy-ggg-golovkin-result-044550158.html The 40-year-old Golovkin looked like a far cry from the superstar he was in 2017 and 2018 in dropping a wide unanimous decision to Alvarez. The judges bizarrely scored it close, having it 115-113 twice and 116-112 for Alvarez. The only way Golovkin won four or five rounds is if he got credit for being hit. Yahoo Sports had it 120-108 and only saw one round it could even reasonably consider for Golovkin. Golovkin’s attempt at revenge turned into a beatdown by his bitter rival. Alvarez was still very much at the top of his game, but Golovkin looked like an old, faded fighter who couldn’t get his punches off. @m.s. @C.J. But Alvarez came out smoking, winging huge shots at Golovkin in an obvious bid to finish him, as he said he’d do throughout the build-up. Only Golovkin’s legendarily strong chin saved him from being dropped or finished for the first time in his career. Alvarez, who was coming off a loss in May in a light heavyweight title fight with Dmitry Bivol, fought a smart, aggressive and controlled fight. He was able to take chances with home run shots that he couldn’t in the first two fights because Golovkin’s quickness wasn’t nearly the same on Saturday as it was then. Fans got their money’s worth in those first two fights, but not so much on Saturday unless one likes to see a young fighter beat the tar out of a classy but far past it fighter. Alvarez said in the build-up he disliked Golovkin because Golovkin talked bad about him so much. But when the beatdown finally ended, they embraced in the center of the ring and spoke for a few seconds before the ring filled. Alvarez looked like the guy who defeated Caleb Plant last year to not only win the undisputed super middleweight title but also vaulting to No. 1 pound-for-pound in the world. He didn’t look that way in May when Bivol outworked him, but he made a strong case for himself Saturday. Golovkin offered little other than a lot of heart and a good chin. But he certainly wasn’t dangerous and didn’t seem as if he was ever a threat to win. Lets find some more press scores since you were so big on those after the first 2 fights.

Tom Gray RingTV: 119-109 Canelo https://www.ringtv.com/644461-gray-matter-canelo-gently-defeats-ggg-bivols-style-poison/ In comparison to the first two battles, this one was a waltz. Golovkin was so timid with his offense over the first two thirds of the fight that Canelo racked up the rounds in second gear. Paul Magno The Boxing Tribune : 117-111 Canelo http://www.fighthype.com/news/article45322.html I had the fight a shutout going into the ninth, although it could’ve been 7-1 if I had been somewhat generous with the first round. After that, I had it three rounds to one for Golovkin, I believe. My score was 117-111, but I saw anything from 116-112 to 118-110 as acceptable. 115-113, for me, was a real stretch and something that required the judges to give Golovkin every benefit of every doubt in every marginally close round.
There is no talk about the press scores because GGG fought like trash for 8 rounds. What is there to discuss? Still a fan of Golovkin but he has let me down. Not that he gives a damn about what I think. It pisses me off because I know he has more left in him that what he showed.
The press scores are where they always are. You even linked them from the websites so not sure why you're asking this. Other than to create some nonsense you can get upset about and feed your anger addiction. As for why they arent being discussed... because Canelo waited multiple years to rematch and GGG is forty now.
I thought the judges had it too close. A bit concerning how the judges' scorecards don't seem to resemble the fight (look at the rounds they gave, even if you think it was a close fight the scoring of various rounds is baffling to say the least).
Stephen Sanchez: Canelo 118-110 https://www.essentiallysports.com/b...n-canelo-alvarez-vs-gennady-golovkin-trilogy/ Emmy-winning journalist Stephen Sanchez stated that he had Alvarez comfortably ahead on his scorecard. Two-time Olympic medalist sprinter Akeem Haynes called out the judges who scored the bout 115-113 for Alvarez, calling it a ‘joke’ One fan stated that the judging in boxing was flawed and that ‘GGG’ did not win more than 2-rounds in the fight.
https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2022/9/...against-golovkin-in-a-close-fight-boxing-news The scores of 115-113 are…confusing. Álvarez dominated Golovkin, but those scores suggest a close fight and it was anything but that. https://www.si.com/boxing/2022/09/1...y-golovkin-trilogy-boxing-best-rivalries-ends Bellator star Aaron Pico, who continues to learn from every round Alvarez fights. “I’ve been inspired by Canelo for years, and I have so much respect for him,” Pico says. “It was really cool to see how he set the tone early against Golovkin.” “Canelo needed to prove to himself that he’s still one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters on the planet,” Pico says. “And that’s what he did.” Surprisingly, despite the one-sided affair in the ring, two of the judges scored this fight one round apart with scorecards of 115-113. It is a mystery how they reached that conclusion, and Pico shared his frustration. “Maybe Triple G won two or three rounds, but 115-113, that’s crazy,” Pico says. “Boxing really needs to tighten up their scoring system because that’s absolutely ridiculous. People’s livelihoods depend on this, so it needs to be better. I don’t know the answer—I would never want to be a judge—but they need to tighten things up. This was clearly Canelo’s fight.”

Posters like @m.s. are arguing that it was a close fight, that Canelo only won 7-5, however the consensus press scores were far wider than that.
