He holds the lineal title at 160? He just dropped down and won a belt at 154 from a lower end top 10 guy, again? He has fought better fighters than arguably almost every current champion/highly ranked fighter out there? He generates massive ratings and revenue, which indicates he is the biggest superstar in the sport?

I don't know. Just a few ideas why.

If you live on this forum, the answer would be that he's talked about just as much as any. Mostly negative, it seems. So the answer to why you (average ESB poster) should care about "Canelo Glass Heart Alvarez" is simply that you love to hate him.

Yeah that took me aback also,I mean Canelos fine one only has to see him showing off his car collection to see that but yeah seeing that Canelo is their only means of cash and how little they take in comparison to the man in the ring(rightly so)it becomes abundantly clear why Oscar has stayed on a path well away from Golovkin so much so that they tried at 155 until they were told they were Golovkins mandatory so then back down to 154 and then up 164.5 again staying well clear of anything that might be misconstrued by the fans and media as gearing up for GGG.

I guess as fans we want certain fights to happen when we want without realising the whole picture, facing Mayweather was never gonna be a risk as he had zero chance of being hurt and even in a loss it put him out there,if you believe the stories from that point on Oscar would have had Canelo never face anyone decent again and that it was Canelo who wanted Lara and trout and he only scraped by those two,I do think he's improved some since then but come on guys we all know as does Oscar that it would need to be some improvement to even be competetive against GGG,I truly believed the fight would get made for Sep but I don't see it happening?

strange situation for sure only you never mention step aside fees, that's not indicative of someone terrified of facing anyone?

You seem to conviniently leave out the little fact that Golovkin has had two 8-figure dollar offers for fights at 160.

:risas3: Cocaine O$car's been running a SCAM to AVOID FIGHTING GGG from the get-go and the Canelo TROLLS have sucked it up and continue to deny the facts !!!

:bandit: Any rational Boxing Fan quickly recognized GBP was delaying /plotting/scheming and inventing excuses at all costs to postpone a match with GGG. GBP/Canelo even SURRENDERED THE BELT running away from GGG.

:eyebrow2:IMO... we probably won't see Canelo in the ring with GGG this year.

 Isal... GBP has made at least THREE LOW-BALL offers, each one higher than the last...which K2/GGG have rejected

watching GBP/Canelo make fools out of themselves, leaving them to slowly twist in the wind.

:eyebrow2:Your little... I'm not a MIDDLEWEIGHT Canelo BS, has now signed to meet Chavez jr. @ 164.5 lbs in the

    "BATTLE OF THE QUITERS" !!!

:tonguecrazy: WOW!!! Amazing how quickly Isal has forgotten all his posts defending "CANELO WEIGHT" and all the other NONSENSE GBP offered as an EXCUSE !

:applaudit:It's tuff to be a CANELO TROLL watching Cocaine O$car making them look like FOOLS !

Because he could kick the snot out of every other 154 pounder (incuding Brook) and at 160 he probably gives 3G a workout. It's really that simple.

Well it shows that putting the "winner" of Cotto vs Canelo as the mandatory is atypical. Normally, there's a defined process when a champion is given a mandatory. It's typically done when a champion is not involved in mega fights, it’s uncommon for mandatories given to a new champion. If Golovkin was Cotto's mandatory, then it certainly wasn't enforced. If Golovkin was paid step aside fees to allow Cotto vs Canelo to be held, then I'd ask if there was any evidence of negotiations between Golovkin vs Cotto. I can't think of one time anyone had a desire or expectation to see Golovkin vs Cotto in 2015.

I would just say that it's a self-fulfilling prophecy that Golovkin proponents are lauding as evidence of Alvarez's supposed cowardess. On the one hand Golovkin had an incentive to push the WBC to make him Alvarez's mandatory before he even became champion. And that resulted in him being handed a title without having to win it in a ring by a commission who threatened to strip Canelo of the title due to this highly atypical mandatory put on the "winner" of Cotto / Canelo. In reality, the premise that Canelo had a mandatory in Golovkin before he ever became champion was highly unusual. Alvarez didn't vacate the title because he was scared to fight Golovkin. It was because 1) he wanted to make the fight with Smith at 154 which he couldn't do with that title 2) the WBC was disrespecting his ability to negotiate the fight with Golovkin on his own terms. The WBC, urged by Golovkin was issuing arbitrary timetables and windows to agree to terms that benefitted Golovkin greatly.

Golovkin kept saying "give me my title”, he wanted Canelo’s title without having to fight for it in a ring = cowardly. Vacating a title is not inherently cowardly. If you move up or down in weight classes, and you want to fight for a title, generally you have to vacate a title to do that. I can see how Golovkin proponents are using this to suggest that Canelo is cowardly, but it’s a false theory, and it’s used to blame the fight not happening on Canelo. Canelo has made an offer for a September fight with Golovkin. With Canelo vs Chavez scheduled for May, we’re bound to have a 2 month window of “waiting” after Golokvin Jacobs before Canelo Chavez, but if Golovkin and Canelo are both victorious and come out un-injured, then I don’t know how it doesn’t happen in September.

You really should have a look at these documents. GBP has 100+ fighters that are losing them money every time they fight. I am not the press or the board member and I assume you're not on GBP PR team. No need for slogans or optimistic speeches, just call a spade a spade. Their only truly profitable fighter is Canelo and due to that, DLH matched him against light hitters or no hopers. It doesnt take a genius to see the clever matchmaking involved in Alvarez's career: - Mosley, Lara, Trout, Cotto, Smith and Kirkland - they were all safe fights because they would all end on points. All these fighters, despite the diversity of styles, have one thing on common - they don't have the pop to take Canelo out and GBP has the dough to buy Canelo a victory even in the most hopelessly lost fights (Draw in a 9-3 loss to May comes to mind). GBP's risk to benefit analysis was spot on - Canelo can win fair or by robbery but either way he will win.

With GGG, the fight was for the wbc belt, which announces the scores in rounds 4 and 8. Once Genady would hear he is behind on points he would plant his feet down and go berserk on Canelo, making it a knockout or nothing scenario - DLH didn't like the odds for the knockout.
