While the negotiations are still on-going for the rematch between IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) and Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs), should this come to fruition, the date has already been selected.

"It will be Cinco de Mayo (May 5th, 2018), Cinco de Mayo falls on Saturday this upcoming year," pointed out Eric Gomez, the president of Golden Boy Promotions - which handles Alvarez - during his in-studio visit on 'the 3 Knockdown Rule' with Mario Lopez.

"We had been thinking about doing it sooner, maybe March, we had some other ideas but now 'Canelo' came back and said, 'Lets do it Cinco de Mayo."

Gomez said - "the venue is up in the air. Jerry Jones (owner of the Dallas Cowboys and AT&T Stadium) came back and wants to meet with us. Madison Square Garden wants to meet with us. They've told us, 'Look, we're serious, we really want the rematch, we want an opportunity to meet.' We're going to give them an opportunity to sit down and meet with them."

Odds are though, that it will be Las Vegas that lands this fight again because of it's built in resources and infrastructure.

"Yes, it's hard to compete with Vegas," admitted Gomez, who added, "the amenities in Vegas are unmatched around the world. There's so many amenities and there's a reason why these high rollers come in and you charge bigger ticket prices - but that's because of the amenities.

This is consistent with everything Loeffler has said. Loeffler even thinks negotiations will be done by the end of November.

Canelo is holding out for the winner of Saunders / Lemieux.

Why is it so darn hard to put together a sure fire hit like GGG/Saul 2, otherwise?

I am not holding my breath on the rematch, i still believe there is strong chance this is just them smoke and mirrors. This update has told us the Mexican wants to fight on Mexico day which is hardly a surprise and that absolutely nothing has been sorted regarding sourcing a venue, the big ones around America are an option which is harldy a surprise and that the most likely venue will again be in Las Vegas which is hardly a surprise.

Good update. Very cynical of me but this is Oscar and Golden Boy were talking about, just dont trust them.

3 of the biggest GGG riders sharing the same opinion? No surprise there.

I have no interest in a rematch no matter what golovkin does he will not win if the fight goes the distance. Hw won the first fight pretty easy and its all i needes to see to make my conclusion.

What ? GGG won the fight but It was a close fight and the rematch has to happen asap. Even 8 months is too long.

And if David Lemieux wins, they'll delay it even more.

I'm very doubtfull they'll agree on anything before December 16th.
Gomez and Oscar have a history of contradicting themselves, but I'll go with Oscar, who at least says some half truths here and there. Gomez only tells reporters what he thinks they wanna hear, meaning absolutely nothing, just blah blah blah.

The March part was hilarious. Can anyone believe that ish ? That GB wanted this fight as early as March, when Canelito was clear, he's a Mexican Hollyday fighter now and he always stated that his next fight will be in May.
