Canelo doesn't try to learn English Kudos to Chavez for trying I understood him OK. In fact both Chavez & Golovkin are easier to understand than Floyd. He is unintelligible at times

Jr. is a more notorious weight cutter than Broner, though. His entire W column is comprised of bullying MUCH smaller men.

Agreed! Funny, people here are criticizing Chavez for not speaking Spanish on a show based in the US yet I've never ONCE heard Canelo even try to speak English. I'm all for speaking the same language as your countrymen but come on... at least answer the interviewers questions, in this case Max's questions in English...

Chavez is trying really hard to sell this fight. I have to admit, because of him I am actually interested. He might take this seriously enough and give us a competitive match up - We know Canelo is going to come in at his best, he is an exceptionally professional individual, now if Chavez also does, we might have fireworks.

Still won't buy the ppv though. The worse it does, the higher the chance GGG-Canelo happens.

Looking at quality of opponent and who he lost to there is no real evidence to say Cotto wasn't as good at JMW/MW he was just older but GGG is 35, Wlad is 40 and almost beat the most hyped young heavy, people make excuse for Martinez and Geale yet will say Cotto was competitive or almost beat Alvarez if you hold that opinion that right there should be enough to say Cotto beating Geale or Marvella wasn't a fluke but that's my opinion.

Cotto moved to 54 the same year Alvarez did and moved up above that weight before he did as well.

Mosley to my knowledge isn't touted as one of Alvarezs best wins, Mosley is just a learning fight vs a past it HOFer for a young fighter. Even still Mosley had half a dozen fights at 54 and was Lineal Champ at one time that isn't a smaller fighter.

There is no way you can consider guys who are multi time Champs in a division small.

Someone is criticizing Canelo! Oh the horror! Please say it isn't so...

Calm down Isal... it will be ok.

I saw a post from a known canelo fan talking about how jr has made a career out of fighting smaller men. While theres truth to that, its just funny seeing a guy who desperately and irrationally defends canelos every move, including his smaller opponents, talking about the size of jrs opponents.

That being said... as for this thread, Canelos size advantage, while consistent, is largely exaggerated imo. Trout, Lara, Kirkland, Smith, Angulo are all large fighters. He only outweighed them by about 5 to 7lbs I believe. Nothing crazy.

Hes had a few fights against clearly smaller opponents, but most fighters have.

With this fight and his move to middleweight, I think the whole picking on smaller fighters talk will slowly disappear.

Canelo actually wanted to fight Jr's dad, but after thinking it through he decided he was too big and not shot enough.

Chavez Jr made a career of fighting smaller guys. Canelo has fought much better competition than a lot of fighters you guys praise. Mayweather, Lara, Trout, Cotto, Kirkland, Angulo. Don't get me wrong, recently he has been taking the **** but he has some good names.

I heard him speak English. But it's obviously hard for him to hide his thick Irish accent.

Yep - I fully support celebrities being made to look like fools. Pity there wasn't a hurricane.

Easy to project upon it what you wish.

    And I'm guilty, too.

I'll forever believe that the post weigh-in between Floyd and Manny was telling. They walk out on stage. Floyd goes a few steps and stops. Manny does the same.

Then Floyd waves him over and points at the ground where he wants Manny to stand for the staredown. They didn't just walk out and meet in the middle.

It was like Floyd calling a little puppy. Manny acquiesced. I felt I knew at that moment who the alpha was.

He got punked by Mayweather and arguably lost to both Lara & Trout

If you campaign at a weight for a long time, it's your weight. The weight cutting thing is a different topic. I'm talking about bringing guys up 1-2 divisions from their BEST weight.
