A bit premature maybe but I saw signs on Saturday that suggest Canelo has peaked. It may have been an off night against a decent fighter but if he doesn't improve significantly in next fight then it's a sure indicator he's not going to get any better. He's still young so I might be wrong but remember he's got a lot of miles on the clock. If this is his peak, then forget about him being an ATG. Also, this would significantly undermine GGG's legacy as he made Canelo look like a beast. If he moves up to Smith or Kovalev, any version of either, he gets destroyed.
The GGG rematch looks like it's took it's toll in those later rounds against Jacobs. He's still a very good fighter but this may be the beginning of the decline. Billy Joe, where you at? Time to show Gingerbread who's boss.
I'm surprised BJS isn't pushing harder, remember when he wouldn't stop talking about GGG he should be doing the same now
I think Canelo’s been peaked, since even before the Mayweather fight, since I haven’t seen an ounce of improvement in Canelo in years and I also don’t believe his official age and think he’s a couple of years older than reported just like I don’t believe Dillian Whyte or Luis Ortiz’s official ages.
He was noticeably less explosive than against GGG, noticeably more reluctant to unload, and it seemed to me like he was wary of Jacobs' power.
I feel like he hit his prime in the cotto fight and has been in his prime since. Not ready to say he's slipping until his reflexes go and he starts getting hit more.
Jacobs only loses to the best of the best - he's basically a gatekeeper to the P4P class, kind of like Hatton or Cotto (I think Miguel was better, but the principal is the same). Sulecki and Derevyanchenko can fight. Beating him is arguably the best non-controversial win Canelo's had depending on how one rates the Cotto win.
Well look at all the facts Canelo is rich AF I don’t think he blows through his cash recklessly He’s fought the best and got his official win over GGG He’s taking punches from big punchers, they have an effect. He’s rich, why risk getting brain damaged? Jacobs and GGG aren’t Amir Khan and Liam Smith. At some point he’s gonna say “I’m a warrior and all but I don’t need this punishment” Unless he’s absolutely crazy and lives for being the best. If he fights GGG in Sept and pockets another 40 plus million plus whatever upside, motivationally speaking he may well have peaked. Physically he has a few more years. Motivation wise he’s probably there.
Think you'll find his performances will fluctuate depending on if he's feeling the effects of his PED cycles but I always expected him to be better at middleweight.
