The reason I don’t always give him full credit is because of rehydration clauses. It’s essentially a deal to make sure you are not fighting the best version of the opponent.

He’s still a top fighter, and one of the best of this generation. A true talent.

 

Most posters on here don't give a rats anus about the competitive nature of the sport. Its strictly about seeing certain guys win and certain guys lose.

The only reason why Canelo fought Kovalev in the first place is because he wanted to secure the fighter of the decade and cement himself in boxing history in which he did. Kovalev is a legendary 3 time Light Heavyweight champion with the biggest name north of 160 barring the Heavyweights.


Canelo was losing badly vs Kovalev before the stoppage, it looked like they didn't even belong in the same ring together. He was slower than usual and couldn't do anything but turtle shell defense due to his height and reach. He's not a Light Heavyweight, doesn't belong there and the only reason why you want Canelo to remain at 175 is simply cause you hate him and want him to lose.
