Its called negotiations. Canelo would fight Cotto in Puerto Rico, Cotto is that easy of a fight. "I will not fight Cotto in MSG" is posturing on Canelo's part in order to have Cotto make a public statement about it and further make him feel like he's obligated to make the fight happen. At anyone who even thinks this fight could be competitive.
:deal EXACTLY!! New York is cool but Vegas on Cinco De Mayo weekend is out of control! Plus Mecca of boxing, add that there is a good amount of Ricans here, it gets no better!
This fight will happen in Vegas for a few reasons. First and foremost...money! The site fee from a Casino (MGM) will make these guys millions of extra dollars they won't get anywhere else. Reason 2: Taxes. Again, it all goes back to money. NY state taxes the **** out of these guys. Nevada's taxes are a lot more fighter friendly. This is prize fighting, not pride fighting. They fight for the prize...which is money, don't let anyone tell you any different. Reason 3: No matter what anybody says, Vegas is still neutral ground. They could even have Cotto approve of the officials before hand if he's concerned (which he shouldn't be). Reason 4: Cotto is asking $20 million for this fight. He isn't going to get it but there's no way in hell a fight in New York generates enough money to satisfy Cotto's monetary demands which will be in the $12 million-16 million range, no way. I know there is money in New York, but a $250 seat at MSG is a $400-$500 seat at the MGM and that's no exaggeration. Half the tickets will be bought up brokers/scalpers and by the casinos for their high rollers before they even go on sale to the public. That's 50% of the gate sold right off the bat. Meanwhile the prime seats at MSG will be the last to go, I saw it for myself at Cotto-Martinez. The best seats that were the most expensive went last. This fight will end up in Vegas, I will be very surprised if it doesn't. They would be leaving too much money on the table to put it anywhere else. the big fights end up in Vegas and Canelo is big enough at this point in his career where he shouldn't have to fight in New York, and he won't.
Tax reasons, Tax liability is much higher in NY and that would translate to less take home pay for both fighters. Las Vegas makes more sense. For a fight of this magnitude.
MSG is a mecca for New Yorkers, and as a venue is renowned But for Boxing Las Vegas is where its at. :deal
