A lot of guys at 147 and 154 would have beat him tonight. He didn't look good tonight he's looked much better.
canelo ko sergio? :smoke are you saul's uncle or something? he is so overprotected that he ref literally jumped to stop the fight, gomez did not even hit the canvas, canelo will never be in sergio's league man, i bet cotto mops the floor with him
I dont know wtf was up with him tonight. Not defending him, it just really looked to me like he was bored, or unenthused..I don't know. I thought when he did let punches go, he was clearly superior.
I don't think Canelo is a fraud, he'll he's only 21. That being said he did look as good as he has in the past.
Canelo had lost just about every round before the stoppage (but won the first 10-8 because of the knockdown, as Gomez hadn't been dominant enough to offset the two point swing). I scored the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to Gomez. The 5th was incredibly close, and I gave it to Alvarez by the slightest possible margin more on a whim than anything (feeling pressured to hurry up and give it to one of them, to proceed with calling the 6th). He landed the better shots but got outworked in the 5th. In rounds 2-4 (and most of the 1st before the kD) he just got worked over. The surprisingly game Gomez was bossing him around the ring. Great turnaround in the 6th and I do think he had Gomez in serious trouble and possibly on the cusp of a real knockout - but it can't be ignored that this legitimate badass got out-thought, out-hustled and out-boxed for most of five rounds (and by extension, most of the fight itself) by someone many were writing off as a no-hope bum.
Gomez never posed the slightest risk to this guy. Canelo was just biding his time till the opportunity came. And it did.
So it was a strategic move to look like crap and keep his offense to a minimum while getting bullied by a smaller man for five rounds? :huh
