He doesn't have 1 convincing win over a top fighter in their prime. Not one in his career. Let alone ATG. Doesn't even have a convincing win over a decent fighter. Everything is close and controversial or they were old and shot.

Name me one top performance that justifies this.

 

So when did Canelo beat a prime Pacquiao convincingly like Morales did? Cuz I must have missed that.

Nah, this is a Floyd hype thread. Smith should have been coming off of a loss against Ryder and dude only had 3 weeks to properly train. He found out he got the fight on social media 4 weeks out. Kovalev was shot, almost KO'd by a prospect, had to jump right back into camp, and then fought a rehydration clause.

But this really goes to show you how the version Floyd fought is so far away from the product today.

 

I'd put him above EM, MAB and Marquez.

He's had a special career so far and still seemingly has a lot left to offer.

Chavez, Sanchez and Saldivar are still above him, for now.

But it really wouldn't surprise me if he goes down at the Goat Mexican.

He's established himself as the number 1 fighter in 3 divisions now, always by beating the best ranked fighter in the division. Very few in history achieve that level of success and you have to favour him to unify at SMW and go on to do the same at LHW.

Trout and Lara were the top rated LMW fighters in the world.

Cotto, Golovkin and Jacobs were the top rated MW fighters in the world.

Smith was the top SMW fighter in the world.

Of course these fights will be close, they're fought ah the highest level.

How many active fighters have beaten as many top 5 ranked fighters as Canelo has?

Let me do a quick count:

Rhodes, Trout, Lara, Cotto, Golovkin, Jacobs, Kovalev, Smith.

That's 8 victories over guys who were ranked in the the top 5 when he beat them. How many fighters today can match that?
