He's fought some good punchers GGG is obviously a very big puncher albeit Clen's fans consider him a ''bum'' which is odd because GGG is by far his best win despite the fact that the later was well past his best and Clen lost both fights to him Kovalev threw pity pats all night but his once fearsome power and punch resistance had greatly diminished and you only have to examine his form in his previous 5-6 fights to see that. The Krusher of old would've 100% KO'd Clen Jacobs is good puncher Lara has good power in his backhand Callum Smith is a good puncher Kirkland is a good puncher but he's glass-jawed and not world class Am I missing any? I don't think so Actually come to think of it he's not fought many punchers at all for a veteran of 60 fights and let's not forget that like 40 of those fights were against OAPs, hasbeens who were well past their best and leprechauns before he moved up to the world level. He does have a very good chin though
Mosley, Cintron and cotto were very solid punchers, that Canelo fought and beat. People seem to forget about those fights.
Canelo post-GGG is all smoke and mirrors.. All suspect weird fights, wouldn't be surpised if most were fixed..Kovalev and Yildrim were fixes imo Callum Smith and Plant are suspect too. Obviously I could be wrong with Smith and Plant, but Kovalev and Yildrim were just obviously fixed bs. You can't explain Kovalevs performance by simply saying he was drained or had a two month camp - the guy with a huge reach and height advantage forgot all his attributes against a 160lber ginger who had never fought at 175 and even at 154 wasn't considered a KO artist. Canelo does not do anything special in these fights, he just plods forward no fancy movement or consistent use of feints, then tees off with looping punches. Then all the other guys just pitty patty and let him walk towards him. I won't be surprised at all if some point in the future this all comes to light.
Why would you take an 11 round beating if it was a fix.... Drop in the 4-5 and save yourself a beating, same goes for Smith... That guy took three rounds of Serious beating at the end of the fight. Yildrim never came to win, I dont believe it was a fix, just a complete miss match.
Canelo is not avoiding big punchers Smith is a far more proven puncher than Benavidez, and GGG is levels above either in power. Kovalev didn't really have the legs or attitude to commit to his shots, but we didn't know how he'd fight going in. If he's afraid of big punchers, why would he take him on?
Makes sense really: if you have the judges in your pocket and know the only way your opponent can win is via knock out...
