Growing up in a tough part of town does NOT make you a tough person with high self-esteem, the high ability to overcome adversity and a good work ethic. It makes most people mentally weak because they're exposed to underage mothers, drugs, alcohol, neglect and violence during the crucial childhood years; that's why many of them end up unemployed, uneducated or worse in prison.

And what were the murder rates for Kazakhstan in the 90s when Golovkin grew up? You both seem to be so smart why don't you tell that as well?

The 90s were like anarchy in every post-Soviet country, because that was the decade when they had the transition from communism to capitalism and let's just say that transition wasn't so smooth. The economy collapsed, there was a complete lack of government presence and authority and crime bosses ruled every city, there was a shitload of crime organizations that were killing each other, politicians or any businessman that didn't want to pay protection money to them.

Just for comparison: there were 47,870 murders in Russia in 1994. There were "only" 13,120 murders in 2012. That's how dangerous the 90s were compared to nowadays. And the difference was similar in every post-Soviet state, including Kazakhstan.

The 90s weren't only tough because of the crime. It was tough because of the ****ed up economy, hyperinflation, millions lost their jobs, became homeless, even if they found a new job, there were like 14 month salary delays, they only received coupons for their work which could be exchanged for very limited goods. Not to mention the frequent power outages and the regular absence of hot water (they use central heating systems that rely on hot water supply) - imagine that in the winter.

    That's how Golovkin grew up.

That's a very badass photo. GGG looking like a stone cold killer there. GGG brandishing a gun is badass enough as it is, but for a second or two I thought he was also sporting a mullet too. However, I think it's the head of another young street urchin/pimp standing behind him. I knew it was too good to be true.

    Sorry but I can't resist

It's got to be Octuple G now

No man. The guy with the least elaborate hairstyle, the least hair and the biggest moustache wins. Don't you know anything? ;)

Living in a country where the government let's you do what ever you want and jails are run by prisoners with no discipline Mexico. Compared to a cold Communist country where the government controls everything thing you and disciplines you harshly until the day you die. I want to go to cancun Mexico.

Life in Kazakhstan is just way tougher than it is in Mexico or anywhere in North America. If Mexicans get too stressed out they can just head down to the beach and take a refreshing dip in the crystal clear waters and then they can lounge around all day soaking up some rays while they knock back a few dozen pina coladas, whereas Kazakhstan is a landlocked country and the only thing they can do to help alleviate stress is drink themselves into a stupor on homemade vodka. This is what they call a sea over there.
