What Jr/The Eubanks could do is this, move back to 160 and fight Lemieux on the Golovkin Vs Canelo undercard, or maybe even a catchweight with Lemieux of 164.

Lemieux was suppose to be in line for Canelo but that isn't happening now so why not?

Jr would get exposure, get people talking and put himself in the shop window for the winner of the big one, providing he won.

If Jr got past Lemieux then I think it would be a natural fight to make with either Golovkin or Canelo.

Yeah he looks good in the video, I have a couple of problems with it LOL

Liam Smith, Angulo and a couple of others are not Golovkin, Canelo could drop his hands and showboat because there isn't the danger. Let's see if he drops his hands and showboats against Golovkin, I don't think he will.

Cotto, for all his skills (and he has them) the jab he was throwing in that video looked half hearted and rather weak, compare it to Golovkin jab, no comparison in my opinion.

Also Golovkin will also target Canelo ribcage, Golovkin won't be winging aimlessly like a lot of them on that video, it will be calculated and accurate.

Golovkin represents far more problems for Canelo than those opponents on that video so Canelo won't be able to take the same amount of liberties.

Canelo doesn't slip? Are you sure you've actually seen him fight? He's developed some of the best head and upper body movement in the game. You're tripping if you think he can jab Canelo like David 'I block punches with my face' Lemieux.

Only problem with that is it will involve fighting a live fighter....no chance!

Clearly Golovkin is better than any of them save Cotto. At this point, I rate Cotto's style superior to Golovkin's. Not saying Golovkin is an easier fight for Canelo, but H2H Cotto is better.

The reason Cotto's punches were weak were two reasons imo. One Canelo unleashed some vicious body punches in round 1 against Cotto, that when he went back to his corner, Cotto was breathing very hard to catch his breath. Two, Canelo made Cotto pay everytime he attempted to put mustard behind his punches, so Cotto decided to try an outbox Canelo instead of using his signature come forward style with body attack, imo in fear of getting badly hurt.

As far as Golovkin targeting Canelo's rib cage, I'm sure Canelo hopes for that, because it allows the quicker Canelo an easier opportunity to counter upstairs or beat him to the punch downstairs.

Golovkin's best chance against Canelo is to try to bully him, and impose his strength on him in the hopes that he can wear him down. If GGG tries to outbox him, he's only going to get outboxed himself as Canelo is a much better boxer who incorporates better defense, is more explosive on the release, and has faster hands.

Golovkin has two skill sets that separates him from his contemporaries, and that is his power and his ability to cut off the ring. The only thing that Golovkin brings to the table that Canelo hasn't already seen is his power, as far as his cutting off the ring skills, they will be almost useless against Canelo who main style invites his opponents to come to him.

While GGGs power will be a factor that could determine the fight, something I think is overlooked when dealing with styles is speed more specifically defensive speed.

Alvarez has fought some of the fastest guys around his division and outside of Floyd held them all to there worst showings. Compared to Lara,Khan & Cotto speed wise Golovkin will look like Chavez comparatively, the power on GGs jab will command more respect but I think the chances of him landing as often as he has on other fighters won't be the same.

I think the styles play into Canelo's hands with Golovkin being a stalking pressure boxer for the most part, and Alvarez being an aggressive counter puncher 2017 is really putting boxing on the map can't wait for Sept.

Even now at 80-85% of his former self, Golovkin stops Canelo.

likewise, GGG is no Amir Khan (in just about every way possible, he's not); Khan was up on the cards and was outboxing Alvarez before the KO, which was certainly decisive, but didn't seem inevitable to me even a moment before it happened.

i would bet that Canelo's work rate (punches thrown per round) is literally about one half of GGG's (easily verifiable on compubox)

i would also bet that GGG's accuracy (landed / thrown) is at least as high as Alvarez'.

I would also bet that Canelo has fought at a much higher level than what Golovkin usually feasts on.

Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara, are all very difficult opponents, much more accomplished, and are much higher quality in terms of skill than ANYONE of Golovkin's resume.

So while you dwell on compubox, we dwell in reality.

Very good post. I think they will bring out the best in each other, but in terms of style, you have to give it to Canelo, because his main style is dependent on his opponents attacking him so he can use defense to set up the counter attack.

I'll take Jacobs, Brook, Lemieux, Murray, Geale, Monroe and even Macklin over that lineup. A lineup of little 154 guys that wouldn't be able to hack it in the 160 division. What's more, Alvarez squeaked by Lara and Trout, and wasn't able to close the show on Old Man Cotto, whereas GGG has blasted out a succession of much bigger fighters.

If you think Brook, Jacobs, Lemieux, Monroe, Murray, and Geale are greater than Trout, Lara, and Cotto, then you're not on my level as far as boxing knowledge and I need not talk with you regarding this matter.
