It doesn't really matter GBP has Canelo as the cash cow to them that's more important than anything else. They will protect their asset at any costs until they can find a suitable replacement. The WBC is right there along with Canelo as well they want a Mexican and the cash cow to have their belt and will also do whatever it takes to make sure it stays that way.
I think the point of the writing was so K2 could sue WBC if they refuse to strip Canelo. It's legally binding.
Sadly, this is right. I'm going to eat my vitamins and pray to Ali Raymi that it all goes through and we get a huge fight anyway, just in case
GBP won't love it, but let's look at Canelo's and Oscar's track record here. GBP and Oscar the Businessman didn't love the Lara and Trout fights, but Canelo took them anyways once he got wind that people were saying he was too protected to take the risk. Oscar the Fighter is the epitome of fighting everyone, win or lose. He maintained his drawing power even when he lost twice within a year in his prime. He knows that a loss isn't the end of the world for Alvarez, but avoiding the fight would permanently damage the image they've spent years building up. Even though Oscar the Businessman may not be thrilled about it, Oscar the Fighter has to be proud that Alvarez isn't taking the easy way out. We've got plenty of past history to back that up. No need to buy into the critics who constantly move the goalpost once they've been proven wrong. :good
So he needs to earn a shot at the Middleweight champion by fighting two guys who aren't middleweights? Seems legit.
Fair points but Canelo isn't Oscar he doesn't caputure the casuals like Oscar could not to mention Oscar is Mexican American instead of Mexican. They fought Trout and Lara both risks but calculated risks they were very confident that neither of these guys could really hurt Canelo and therefor not knock him out. So with that being said they knew they would win a decision even a disputed one would be fine it still wouldn't hurt their brand. With GGG they don't have that luxury, they don't know without a shadow of a doubt that Canelo won't get knocked out. A loss they can somewhat handle but a devastating knock out would be just too much right now to risk because they just got into the position as cash cow. Did Oscar take loses yes, but he didn't get knocked out either with the exception of Hopkins a fight everyone already expected him to lose anyway. That's the difference.
I see where you're coming from, even if we disagree on the conclusion. :good Ultimately, while he's not "Oscar" big, I still believe Canelo isn't going to break the kind of "fight anyone" rep that Oscar had and that he's been trying to build for himself. The more it gets in Canelo's ear that people think he'd be utterly destroyed, the more likely he'll run towards GGG, and not away from him. He can handle being looked at as a loser. He won't risk looking like a coward. Not with the 20+ million Mexicans that watch his fights.
Canelo will never ever ever fight Golovkin @160. I'm not even sure if De la Hoya would allow him to take the fight around 157.
I honestly believe if the fight does happen this year it will have to be at a catch weight. BTW I don't think Canelo is scared of GGG I think he would fight him tomorrow but it's GBP who don't want the fight right now, and would like to put it off as long as possible.
Wasnt the WBC sued and almost put out of business over the whole LHW issue with RJJ and Rochinni(sp?)
