He is the modern day, mexican red headed step child version of will o the wisp. Strooooong strong Defense, angles, he was standing right there with trout an not even a glove was laid on this man.
It was quite a sight. Alvarez showed some excellent defensive moves, he only forgot to counter Trout after that.
I think his stamina getting drained was a reason for that. But yeah, his defense was very impressive last night.
I have to re-watch the fight, what I remember is Canelo relying on his power with limited boxing ability. At times didnt know how to counter and was taking the occasional shot on the ropes. Ill re-watch it tho, sometimes initial impressions are off watching it live.
Calling Canelo slick after watching Rigo last week. No comparison. I saw a few good defensive moves by Canelo but slick? No way. Slick boxers counter after making their opponents miss or roll then counter. I didn't see one good counter from Canelo.
Fight didn't really had a high pace so I dont think he had stamina issues, if he did, it's worrying at his age. I just dont think Alvarez was looking to counter off the ropes, he tried to make Trout open up and try a different gameplan. Saul should work on his counterpunching. He has the right fundamentals for that.
Canelo's pretty slick when he wants to be, but I'd like to see him set shots up off of his slips and rolls more.
