If it doesn't make a difference then why even have a catch-weight? Because it does makes a difference.
and its not like canelo loses his enitre purse, banned for boxing for a year and the fight is cancelled and alvarez is liable for the cost of the entire event if he deosnt make 152. canelo is going to weigh-in what hes comfortable at and he was almost two pounds lighter than he was at the seven day against trout than he is for floyd. these threads are pretty stupid and meaningless.
He made the fight for his bank account, not the fans. He was negotiating from a position of weakness and his team did what they could to get the fight made. If he's weight drained it will suck for the fans....but not his bank account.
still no replies for my last post Typical E.S.B Whenever you have a logical and Truthful post, it gets ignored. You post stupid baseless opinions, gets 100 replies shows how insecure some of you are
Nice example. Really not much argument unless Hopkins was considered a big middleweight at the time. However this seems to be an outlier. Most of the catchweights I can recall benefited the smaller fighter.
But in this case, Floyd can't even make 154, Canelo has no re hydration clause, so it only makes it more fair if you think about it
It's funny how bent out of shape people are about the catch-weight. Last I checked, 152 was still Junior Middle-Weight... It's a range fellas. Anywhere in there is JMW. 148-154. Get over it. I don't see any of you silly goombas bitching when Canelo comes in at 171 the night of a fight, like suddenly blowing up to super-middle is no big deal. This is very silly. Damnit, I really want Canelo to come in at 154 and get his ass kicked. I'd love to see this place blow the 'eff up...
What logic? All fighters are different... How many fighters become World Champion at 48 years old? Reality is, every fighter is different and weight affects everyone differently. Examples: Paul Williams was HUGE for WW, and he could campaign between 147-160 no problem. Ricky Hatton proved to be ineffective at 147, but was too big for 135. Also as people get older, the body naturally gets heavier and it also becomes harder to lose weight. The real question here is, "If catchweights do not make a difference, then why doesn't Floyd just scrap that off the contract?"
The old guy fighting a 23 yr old who will outweigh him by at least 15 lbs is a ***** huh. Floyd deserves alot of the **** he gets but where people get professional prize fighters are bitches and scared, idk
Well let see, canelo won the belt against Hatton at a catchweight, 150lbs, still canelo came in at 152, then he defend that title against the likes of Gomez, Lopez all career jwww, then the frog cintron and old a$$ mosley, finally he fought rhodes and trout all feather fisted.
