Oh boy, yet another Canelo thread. We should start taking over-under on when they break down.

Poor attempts at humor aside, I read this interesting little article:

    This content is protected

And to summarize, while the Kovalev fight generated $8.173 million, that is less than his last fight against Daniel Jacobs ($8.7 million), which itself was significantly less than the second GGG fight ($24.5 million), which was slightly behind the first fight ($27 million). Those are significant drops in earnings since signing with DAZN, especially for a guy who's getting reportedly paid 40 times that amount.

With these losses, do you think Canelo loses some negotiating power, at least in terms of who and when he fights next? I can't imagine DAZN or even Uncle Fishnets will let him keep having his way, especially after this last fight where the earnings (probably) just barely paid for Sergey's purse.

Or do you think Canelo's still pulling his financial weight, in paid subscription numbers of nothing else, and these numbers are not indicative of his-still great financial value and thus, his weight at the negotiating table?

    Discuss my children!

Maybe its because people recognise that, barring some fluke, that its been set up for him to win.

It's boring watching a contest where you already know the preordained victor.

There was a genuine sense with the GGG fights that Canelo risked getting sparked out. That's probably why they did so well.

He needs to take on challenges where the negotiations arent so ridiculously one sided that even a casual fan is turned off watching him. Even many Mexicans have caught on this faux "greatness".

He needs to step on and fight on level terms; someone like Beterbiev would be perfect.

DAZN's marketing also sucks in my opinion. HBO and Showtime did an awesome job with Floyd.

DAZN...DAZN are hiding him, their lack of market penetration has cut his drawing power by keeping him out of the mind of casuals

That's why DAZN was pushing for the rematch. It's the only fight for both that generates that kind of money. But it will go down further the longer they'll wait and GGG will be 38 in may.

I blame DAZN. This internet takeover with DAZN and ESPN+ in my opinion is sabotaging views. FOX did more build up for Jose Uzcategui vs. Caleb Plant than DAZN did for Canelo/Kovalev as well. I definitely miss HBO. Not everyone is up to date with smart TVs and fire stick or roku or whatever. I think DAZN needs a channel you can switch over to with good ol cable tv. I barely saw any promotion for Canelo/Kovalev. Don’t think there’s any boxer around today that DAZN can properly promote like HBO did. Would Pacquiao and Mayweather be the mega stars they are today without 24/7 and the endless promotion HBO did for them? God 10 years ago when Mayweather or Pacquiao fought it felt like a holiday

I have DAZN and the countdown shows were lacking, pretty damn terrible. Everything presented that evening pretty much was.

Draymond Green? Gabriel Iglesias? DJ Khaled?

I miss boxing on HBO. DAZN is trying too hard.

    Stick to the script!

I remember the buildup to Hatton vs Mayweather here in the UK. It was incredibly well promoted and it felt like the entire country tuned in to watch it.

GGG whooped him and fans know that, so they won’t support a fighter who shouldnt be in the position he is.

That explains why Golovkin has only been on PPV three times in his career, twice thanks to Alvarez and once, a major failure too, against Lemiueux.

Totally agree Fastsmith7 . Everyone saw that GGG won the first fight clearly and the second fight clear but closer, so no interest in this fake champion. DLH must see this but I guess he is too thick and well off himself to realise , If fixing fights then make it 1-1 , the trilogy is the money maker fishnets

    Canelo needs GGG....

Now that another 12months has elapsed Canelo may finally fancy a third fight?

That wait fiasco , what was it an hour and a half, also didn’t help. That pissed of a lot of viewers.

Get over it friend. GG didnt whoop nothing. Even Kovalev's frail, nursing home a** dominated Canelo better than GG ever did.
GG had two opportunities already . It's over.
